Default RB Likely Starting XI

This was on MLS Underground: http://mlsunderground.blogspot.com/index.html

Goalkeepers: Ronald Waterreus

Defenders: Todd Dunivant, Carlos Mendes, Jeff Parke, Marvell Wynne

Midifielders:Seth Stammler, Claudio Reyna, Dema Kovalenko, Dave van den Bergh, Dane Richards

Forward: Jozy Altidore

What do you guys think? The article mentions of course this is because M. Schopp is still recovering from injury, but I think it still says what a great pick Dane Richards was. He has been able to show well this preseason, enough so that Arena is comfortable starting him on the wing. This allows Clint to come off the bench and Stammler to be in his most effective position at defensive mid. There had been some talk about Clint starting in mid and Stammler moving to centerback, but I like having him up a bit further so he can get some opportunities to rip some long range shots. I think he's one of our better chances for those 30+ yard goals.

Interested though that on the team website on the 2007 quick hits article the projected starting lineup was listed as Clint and Schopp in the midfield and Stammler on the bench!? I don't think that is as likely, at least I'm hoping.

I heard he had a surgery - does anybody have closer information? When is he expected to be back on the field?

I have heard a few weeks, I have heard he might even play Saturday.

I am guessing he will be out at least the first game and available off the bench for a home opener.

I am not nearly as sold on Richards as everyone else (although considering the only reason why he is strating is that Mathis is not match fit and Schopp is hurt that's a damned good option off the bench)

Parke is dinged up (nothing major) so Stammler will probably take his place, which leaves another hole in midfield. Another reason why they need another CB.

Altidore

DVB-Richards

Reyna

Dema-??????

Wynne-Mendes-Stammler-Dunivant

If Parke is good to go Stammler moves up in the qurestion mark, if not, maybe Reyna drops down and Mathis takes his place adn Arena concedes a 60 minute sub - or more probably they go 4-4-2 with WOly and Alti up top

Agreed, I don't think that Richards has taken over a starting spot, when Schopp is back he's definately in there. But like you said, what a great option off the bench for some late game speed up the flank!

I like our line up when everyone is healthy, BUT with this cast of old and feable characters, I think we are going to see lots of 'hole filling' this season.

Richards went down a few times in Charleston, luckily nothing serious. He is so fast!
