This is spectacular news. Thanks for breaking it. Time for wild speculation on his role ... I'll start. Youth Development? Director of South and Central American scouting? All-around soccer God?
I'll be there and will have the whole press conference (as well as coverage of the game and Sunday's SE Meeting, naturally) on the next Screaming Eagles Podcast.
******** yeah! I cried like Jeremy Eritrea at an MLS Cup final the day Marco retired...I am indescribably thrilled that he's coming back where he belongs.
This really is wonderful news! His place in the pantheon of DCU gods is assured, of course, but it's great to bring him formally back to the club!
Why wouldn't they just hold the press conference at the Barra tailgate - there should be about 300 of us there by then
Excellent news. Very good of DC to get him back in the fold. Now for a Huge tribute game, or are they waiting for a new stadium to do that.
Dang it, I'll be waiting for my flight at 5:45 (going to UK for 3 weeks)... hopefully I can call someone to find out the final details before I board. Why do they have to do this so late in the day, they'll miss the evening news. As a result, this announcement is going to get pushed to the bottom of the post-game reports later tonight and in tomorrow's media.
They are probably still deciding what his role will be, so long as it's not behind a AFKAM badge like all the rest.
My guess is that he's taking over for Harkes as Director of United's Youth Program. Which is absolutely awesome!!! I wish I was a kid growing up right now.
