MOD'S NOTE :: I'm making this the "official" thread for Ruy discussion. There is a considerable amount of discussion in the Off-Season Near News & Rumors thread as well.

    http://globoesporte.globo.com/ESP/No...1-4399,00.html

Found this, says we signed Ruy from Botafogo for a 3 year deal and that we cleared out two big wage players to do so. I don't know how to speak the lingo but its close enough to spanish to understand more or less what they are saying. Also says he turned down other clubs to come here.

Yeah, he signed with DC United for three years. He'll definitely be the starter here..

    http://globoesporte.globo.com/ESP/Noticia/0,,AA1400311-4399,00.html

    Here is a summary:

It says that he was one of the fan favorites this past season for Botafogo. He rejected offers from Panathinaikos and Brazilian clubs Atlético and Fluminense. It also notes he will be the best known Brazilian in MLS (player with the best resume is the exact quote). All of this information is according to his agent.

And, yes, Globo is a legitimate source. I'll try to get some more info on him.

Yes and they keep getting merged into the rumors thread. Yet, people keep posting because they don't know that it has been posted because it keeps getting moved to the rumors thread...

Obviously some people have jobs where they have to work or lives that they have to live so they don't check the rumors & speculation thread.

    Shame on them :p

Hey, the entire rumors thread could be about how much of a twit I am, I wouldn't know because I wouldn't go near that thing....

    :D

But I guess then it would be a Facts and Confirmation thread instead...

    :)

    Exactly.

This has seemed to be fairly concrete news for days. Concrete enough that there's no reason to keep slopping it in with that thread where it's not exactly easy to tell what types of info has been posted when seemingly new information becomes available.

Still hasn't been confirmed by MLS, United, or Goff (the holy trinity).

Can it be confirmed before Jan 1?

Yes, but there has been confirmation from Kevin Payne that there are major announcements coming after the new year, and Goff has mentioned a Brazilian wing player numerous times.

Those facts combined with these reports are fairly deserving of it's own thread, which would have eliminated three or four threads on the topic popping up. Just because Goff hasn't been able to get confirmation from DC United doesn't mean it's not happening.

And it's not going to be until next week.

There's that pesky transfer window thingy that's got to arrive first.

Oh, and Revelation? Turns out you're right--the rumor thread is entirely about what a twit you are. :p :D

I think there has been enough actual press on this rumor to consider it an unconfirmed news item. I'm going to leave this one in the main forum, but re-title it.

I hope this thread does not get merged into the rumors thread. It seems much more legit.

And if it does get merged, someone will start another thread on this topic.

The jackbooted moderators are becoming jacknuts. :D

knowing nothing about him, and having only seen a still photo and now this clip of one of his goals, i'm ready to declare him the new, younger, Brazilian version of Earnie Stewart.

(edit: damn, beaten to it by golazo_usa)

I also added it to the first post in this thread.

    Carry on.

His position is listed as a "laterais."

Is it safe to assume that that's a winger?

Right back... are we going to a 4-4-2 or is he going to push into the midfield? I love skilled, attacking, outside backs.

The Goal.com article says he's a right-winger. I guess I assumed we were getting a forward to pair with Jaime, especially since Esky was sent to the Great White North. Am I right in assuming there's still another player to be named?
