The 50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time!
If you've gone to the supermarket this week and had to wait on line waiting to checkout perhaps in your idle moments you glanced and picked up this week's issue of TV Guide. The cover story was the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time. Topping the list was Bugs Bunny and second was Homer Simpson. If you could choose who would you have choosen as the 10 greatest. Not surprisingly, Disney's characters were much further down the list.

Discuss.
My top 10
1. Bugs Bunny
2. Snoopy
3. Homer Simpson
4. Bender
5. Fred Flintstone
6. Calvin and Hobbes (though they were never on tv)
7. Beavis and Butthead
8. Daffy Duck
9. Ren and Stimpy
10. Sponge Bob Square Pants

Well, there never really were a lot of Mickey Mouse cartoons on TV.
Some nice surprises in there. Space Ghost! Gerald McBoing-Boing (never saw but I remember my mom talking about it...I had a friend named Gerald and she always called him that...)! Cartman!
One show they never mention (and probably isn't a top-50 hit, but still...) when talking about good prime-time cartoons was the late-70s/early-80s Wait 'til Your Father Gets Home, which our family watched.
And where the *(&! are Jonny Quest, the Jackson 5, Kimba the White Lion, Elmer Fudd, the Jetsons, the Animaniacs and the Thundercats??????
Daria?

Agreed, Daria sucks.
Jonny Quest was good.
The Jetsons, bland and boring. Only Astro was interesting.

Also, a Flintstones ripoff, just set in the future instead. Still, it was really popular and I'm surprised it didn't warrant mention.

I hated that freaking Danger Mouse when I was a kid...and that ####ing Inspector Gadget too.
Isn't Voltron a cartoon character, technically?
Is this only for drawn characters, or should it include other forms of animation - claymation, etc. In that case, where are Davey & Goliath? And Penny, from Pee Wee's Playhouse?
Any list of this sort that does not have Tom and Jerry - the Ur-Itchy and Scratchy (and speaking of hip choices, where are they??) - in the top 5 is absolutely worthless, anyway.
