Default Matchday 15: BVB v. VfL Wolfsburg [R]

I shouldn't say this, but goddamnit, if there's a home match BVB should win this first half of the season, THIS IS IT!!

These guys are Smolarek's favorite victims. Sure, they do have a stifling defense this season by the numbers, but I saw these guys in their home match last week against 1. FC Nuernberg and Wolfsburg SUCKED!!!

They only drew because in the second half, 1. FCN sucked just as badly as they did.

If we can't take the three points from this one.

Man...........

Bulls eye. We MUST win this one. Everything else would mean anarchy. You know, I am convinced that BvM will leave next sommer.....at latest. If we suck in the next 3 matches, he will leave before christmas.

I agree. You know I support BvM, but damnit, this team is too inconsistent. I know they are no great team, but even with the injuries, the way the league is going this season, we should be getting better results.

The thing is, if the team can do what they did in Bremen, why can't they do it any other time?? This is one of the major reasons I'm almost certain BvM isn't the problem rather than some "faulty attitudes" within the team.

What I'm afraid of is our getting a coach who isn't nearly as good with young players as BvM is.

I'm glad we aren't getting Daum because all he knows how to do is spend, spend, spend.

If we lose BvM, besides trying to coax Hitzfeld back to the bench, I don't know who the hell we could get.

Anyhow, I'm with you about the match. Especially against this Wolfsburg team, anything less than three points is unacceptable.

I am pretty sure that Thomas von Heesen will become new coach of HSV or BVB. Either this winter break or next summer.

I think HSV needs him more, but if we do let BvM walk, yeah, he'd be near the top of my list.

As I've mentioned in the past, that's my biggest problem with the idea of van Marwijk no longer coaching this club. I like the guy a lot, but I could put that aside if I thought it was in the club's best interests to move forward without him. I just don't see any spectacular replacements out there, which is not entirely unsurprising given our current position both on and off the field.

As for tomorrow night's match, I don't think I have anything to add that hasn't already been said. If we don't win, this club could be making some major decisions in the next week or so. Even an good performance without the three points isn't really enough, given that we've seen several of those in the last few months and it's this frustration that's lead us to where we are now.

I'm just going to hope that our usual fortune against Vfl holds for another 48 hours. Then again, I was keeping my fingers crossed before the game against Hertha as well....

I am the same. It took me awhile to finally put aside my personal admiration for Matthias Sammer and to see him for what he really was.

Despite that, I don't know of any other coach who could have taken the sheer MESS that BvM inherited and turned it into something worthy of these expectations from us.

BvM took what he had left and made something of it. Even now, we have a team pretty much made up of kids and sissies.

That's right. I feel we've got too much inexperience on this team and too many guys who either can't or won't get down, fight harder and get dirtier than their opponents to win three points each weekend.

The latter part of my sentence are the guys I call the sissies. If we can't get a team to play a finesse game with us, then we won't win.

And you can bet Wolfsburg aren't going to come in and try to play a finesse game with us.

Too many of our players lack attitude and guts. I think some of them would let women push them around on the pitch.

Right on man. I can't remember one entire match recently where I'd say the team played "badly." Of course, against Berlin, it was the first 15 minutes that killed us. After that, we dominated, but couldn't put the ball in the net. Same against Aachen. Also, against Bielefeld and Aachen, our team was simply outfought.

Same here. After the way Hertha looked against Bochum the week before, I thought we'd kick their asses. And we did outplay them for most of the match after the first 15 minutes. It's just that they scored two goals and we only scored one measly freakin' goal from the penalty spot.

And we all know the bottom line is that no matter how well you play, if you don't outscore the opponent, you don't win.

And this BVB team just can't seem to score. We spent almost 10M Euros for new strikers and still have the same f#cking problems......

Well, most of that is because Pienaar, as well as Valdez have been total busts so far.

I expected more of Frei, but he's played well on top of scoring some timely goals. Ebi Smolarek has fought his ass off to stay on this team. I admire his fight and will.

Let's see if these guys can right the ship on Saturday. If not, I fear the turmoil may begin.......

Good prediction - Marwijk announced after the Wolfsburg game that he will leave at the end of the season.

Congratulations nonetheless on the late win.

Yep. That was mentioned before the match on the general discussion thread too......
