Diao on his way now
soccernet reports:
Diao set to join Liverpool early
Senegal midfielder Salif Diao will join Liverpool in the next few days, his newly-promoted French club Sedan have confirmed.
His Anfield arrival was originally planned for December but boss Gerard Houllier had made it clear he could be called up in August if Steven Gerrard did not recover from his groin injury.
With Gerrard still not fully recovered, Houllier hinted earlier this week that Diao was virtually on a plane to England.
'It is true that Diao is leaving Sedan and is expected to arrive in Liverpool in the next few days,' a Sedan spokesman said today.
Diao, a member of the Senegal squad that battled their way through to the World Cup quarter-finals in June, signed a five-year contract with the Reds on June 24 for a reported fee of £4.7million

I would love to be able to have the time to go back and search some of the old threads and see just how much I bashed Houllier for signing the grossly over-rated pair of Diao and Diouf. Anybody who had half a brain saw that Papa Bouba Diop was the best player on the field for Senegal at the World Cup.

Re: Diao on his way now
Diao's agent is allegedly named in the bungs furore. Wonder on whom will the dirt stick? I'll be watching the BBC's Panorama which promises to be an explosive expose of corruption, backhanders and such like in football.

Re: Diao on his way now
You know, I liked Salif Diao. He really knew how to get stuck in, got this mental picture of him horizontal, launching himself at the ball...or man...or anything in the way.
Trouble is it was usually followed by a yellow card. But I like him!

Re: Diao on his way now
Salif "human cannonball" Diao- nice mental image.
He's not dead you know, he still running around slowly in reserves..... i love this article on him
"What is important is that I am playing regularly. It's a World Cup year, and I need to be playing each week if I am to break back into the Senegal side."

I guess thats why he turned down a transfer to Spain this year........

Re: Diao on his way now
It seems like Diao is happy to collect his wages and could care less about furthering his career. He is not even close to being good enough for Liverpool. When his contract expires he will be lucky if he is still in top-flight football.
