Default Rooney's England performance the perfect tonic

Having your star striker play a blinder for the national team will hardly do your teams confidence any harm. Everton also celebrated their 100 years of top flight football this week at a lavish dinner reception so there will be high expectations for the coming game. Which is, fittingly, at home.

So after a 2 week break we can hopefully approach the game against Newcastle full of optimism and hope to pick up the league run-in and hunt for European qualification.

More news tomorrow on team selection.
