Hammond on the summer transfer effort
nothing especially surprising here, though the few details on why the Mensah deal fell through are interesting.
Does seem to imply Reading may have one more player on the way in January, though i don't know why I think it implies that.

Re: Hammond on the summer transfer effort
I'd agree, it seems like he thinks that at least one more player will be brought in.

Our Next Signing, where will he be found?
I'm merging this to add a poll, because I don't know how to add a poll to an existing thread.
Reading have increased the Mensah bid to pds 6m (rumor has it) and now with Kitson's knee looking long term, and Doyle going down, even if short term, Dillon is talking about needing a new striker. http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/re...ng_says_dillon
towards the bottom, he talks about the striker situation. We have four, one is out, the others are 21, 21 and 19. Might need to add another to survive the season.
So, there's the poll, then in your answers, suggest who you'd like to see come in. If Reading need a striker, I now think they'll sign three people in January. They need a strong mid to either groom or replace Sids, they need a striker, and they really appear to want Mensah.

And, just to note, I think we need a mid, first and foremost (I think Seol and hunt can also play up top) and I think Dempsey might be a very nice match.

Picking up Dempsey would be cool. I would think that if the rumors comming out of West Ham are true that we could have a shot at both/either Carlos Tevez and/or Javier Mascherano.

Re: Our Next Signing, where will he be found?
If the rumors are true coming out of West Ham, Reading is the last place they would go. Okay, maybe Wigan is the last place they would go.
Really sad to hear about Kitson, a competitor like that must feel terrible sitting all of this out. My bias opinion even thought he would start getting some England talk going after he took the Premiership by storm this season. Anyway, I am quite surprised we have been doing so well without him, we need him back as soon as possible. We need some revenge on the Boro player who did that.
I feel we will only go after a higher profile more established player if it is "at the right price." I would expect more quality players from the lower leagues that the club believes they can develop within. We have such a great track record of this, and it saves so much money.

Has Mensah been hurt at all for Rennes this year? He's only played 4 matches so far, so I don't know if its that they just aren't playing him that much, or if it was because of injury. Anyway, hopefully, if the rumor is true, he'll be coming to Reading for the 6M pds.
Dempsey would be good, especially in the role you described. Train him and maybe play him some the rest of this year, and then be ready to maybe start him next year if Sids does leave (hope he doesn't, of course).
It has looked like another striker would definately be nice, because of the injury problems and Doyle and Lita not being very good together. I don't really have a particular striker in mind, though.

Is Menseh the tank of a centreback who played for Ghana at the WC?

yes. very mobile tank, though. Not a bad pickup. Obviously, coppell and co see something they really, really like in him.
