Default USL-1 Scoring Champ Weaver to Rapids?

Cam Weaver, who scored 39 points on 18 goals in the USL-1 for Seattle Sounders has been rumored on his way to MLS.

Well, guess who's reserves he played for yesterday?

Much MORE on Weaver over at the Seattle fan site.

Go here, type "Weaver" in the search box, and read away...

Default Cameron Weaver (USL Co-Leading Scorer) to Rapids?

Any word in the local press about the Rapids acquiring via loan forward Cameron Weaver of the Seattle Sounders? He is a tall (6'4") striker who had a heck of a rookie year - 18 goals (which tied him for the league lead with ex-Brazil star Romario).

As part of Friday's MLS roster freeze, USL issued a press release that mentions that Weaver will be loaned to a team to be named later. The Rapids seems to be the team since he played for them in yesterday's reserve team:

Colorado - GK Bouna Coundoul (Matt Jordan 46), D Daniel Wasson, D Stephen Keel, D Jordan Harvey, D Eric Denton, M Luchi Gonzalez (Cameron Weaver 46), M Chris Wingert, M Colin Clark (Melvin Tarley 62), M Sasha Gotsmanov, M Aaron King, F Fabrice Noel (David Johnson 77)

Here is Weaver's bio:

I hope so. We need to find something. Thiago in the MLS is more of a testament to how talent poor the MLS is when it comes to players up top than his skills. The Tarley loan is looking like giving away a cheap supplimental draft pick, 4th round at that, to bring him in on an extended trial. Kirovski is amazingly enough probably more washed up than Mathis. Niko's good for the MLS but probably not the type of player to give ya more than 8 or so goals in a year (I hope I'm wrong at that and he does more next year). The Rapids really need a goal scorer.

Wow, huge news. Thanks sounderfan. I was wondering where he was going to end up. The Rapids obviously need some scoring help. Hopefully Cam can provide it.

I'll steal a little more info from the Seattle website for our reading pleasure:

Cam was selected to the USL first team:
Forward – Cam Weaver (Seattle Sounders) A rookie striker, Weaver finished the year tied with the previously mentioned former World Cup MVP for the Scoring and Goal Scoring titles on the year after leading the defending champions to within one point of the playoffs after having lost star forward Maykel Galindo to injury early in the year.

Weaver is 6-foot-4, 195-pounds, making him a good candidate for the target forward needed badly by the Rapids.

He may be the first player to be named USL rookie of the year and USL MVP in the league's history.

With Tarley and ---perhaps---Weaver in your reserves, you have a strike force that could graduate nicely.

But will FC ever play either of them? Or will he keep playing Cletus, Martins, and Kiro?

I think we sadly all know the answer to that question.
