I just noticed this post in the DCU forum....This is the first I heard about shirt sponsors for next year......

We were talking about the shirt sponsors and he started talking about next year. As some of you already know there will be shirt sponsors on the FRONT of jerseys, not at the bottom of the back or anything, we will be looking European. I was like wow, didn't know that and he said that we will either be having...AOL or Siemen's Mobile on the front of ours

Any idea what sponsor the Revs will have???

Cue up the requisite Guinness and Samuel Adams concepts that have been posted for the last four years....

It would be interesting to see who might want to put forth $$$ to get their logo on the Revs jersey.

Any way we can contact the founder of Sam Adam's and tip him off to this :)?

    Don't forget Chico's Bail Bonds.

Sorry, someone had to make the reference.

If they're really doing this, and I have my doubts, I suspect the sponsors will be limited to existing MLS sponsors.

The Revs will have a beverage on the front, but it will be Sierra Mist.

However, this whole thing sounds like a classic Big Soccer rumour.

We could do a lot worse than something like "Fidelity" as our sponsor.

    See: Football Club, Middlesbrough.

When I initially read this thread on the DC board, I thought the same thing. A later poster wrote (again unverified) that teams would now be allowed to negotiate their own deals with sponsors, and I assume keep the revenue from such deals. IF this is so, it's a major change in policy, and one small step away from the single entity structure.

If they do this, they better make the sponsor logo fit the uniform color scheme. Pepsi, Coke, and Bud all do this when they sponsor south american teams.

Oh wait, this is MLS and we'll probably get the Dunkin Doughnuts orange/purple logo on our kit next season. F*** branding.

I'm guessing MLS will be the ones who do it since they handle national advertising and receive all revenues. They are also the ones who have the contract with adidas, not the teams.

BTW, does anyone else think this is an evil scheme to prevent next year's kit from being available for the holidays? This is the one thing the league is great at.

Tottinghamandeggers, amoung a few others, have also joined the online gambling advertisement fray.

My favorite uniform sponsor is one from Japan: Nippon Ham (I'll look for a pic)

    Come on you Hammers!

I've seen a Cerezo Osaka shirt that has Nippon Ham as the front sponsor, but J-League teams have back sponsors, too, so the one I saw had Capcom (as in Street Fighter) on the back. Pink and purple jersey at that.

If I had the scratch, I'd start a collection of jerseys with video game related sponsors, if for no other reason than for many years now my #1 must have jersey has been a 2001 Tokyo Verdy home shirt, this absolutely gorgeous emerald green number with Konami as the sponsor. Auxerre had PlayStation2, St. Etienne had Dreamcast just like Arsenal (I've already got an Arsenal Dreamcast one, made even nerdier because the name on the back is the name of a Dreamcast game), Fiorentina had Nintendo, ManCity had Eidos.

And Blackburn, already stuck with a really crappy kit manufacturer, are part of the online gambling shirt sponsor crowd this year. I suppose it's nice of them to keep saving me money on shirts like that.

My guess for a NE-relevant sponsor btw.

Anyone ever see the P-Bruin's pregame jersies sponsored by Dunkin Doughnuts? They could have attached a neon light to their shirts and it would have been less tacky.

I would fear the worst if they were our sponsor.

Toronto will for sure be spondored by Tim Hortons.

I think there are some posters on this Board who would vote for the Revs to be spondored by----BOSTON CHICKEN :D

I wore my Western Mass Pioneers jersey to the game this week. They have back sponsorship by Dunkin Donuts. It's not hideous, but it also ain't pretty.

The upside would be the possibility of cross promotion with them. You ain't a big town in new england unless you have eleven of their shops.

You know Bob Kraft has nothing to do with the company, right?

However, anything remotely related to Altria is fine by me.
