I actually love the Stanley Cup

I've had the pleasure of viewing it up close while I was working at the RBC Center in Raleigh when the Carolina Hurricanes were playing Detroit, the eventual winners.

spain's la liga trophy is a laughably large and ludicrously proportioned. i strongly suspect that it was designed by albert speer while listening to the climactic movement of wagner's ride of the valkyrie.

but whoever it was that thought that thing up, he got seriously carried away.

while i am not a hockey fan, i think the stanley cup is one of the best trophies in all of sports. it has the name of every man who has ever won it on it. thus the size. but the reverance in which the players in the nhl treat it is unrivaled by any sport in the US, maybe in the world. many players will refuse to touch the cup until theyve rightfully won it. its just amazing.

im not saying it's the worst trophy... i know it's probably heavy and all, but i think the wc trophy could be a little bigger.. i mean it is the biggest stage in world soccer...

some of the formula 1 race trophies are horrible i think.. instead of actual trophies, they give out metal oversized steering wheels... i just think that is lame.

lord stanley's cup is beautiful. without it (and the chicago blackhawks' jerseys) there would no longer be a single item of merit in the NHL.
