Default War Starts - Anti American sentiment towards yanks abroad?

Any anti American sentiment directed at Brad since the war started?

I was wondering if that influenced McBride's decision with so much protest in the UK.

I decided to start this thread since they booed the national anthem in Montreal last night at a hockey game.

I wasnt surprised, since they are basically French.

Anyway, I'm not asking for anyones opinion on the merits of the war.

Just for how it might be impacting our Yanks Abroad.

I can't speak for all of Europe, but in Britain there is not any anti-american sentiment, not even among those who oppose the war. Anti-war does not mean anti-US. I doubt any player has even considered returning to the US. Such a thought probably hasn't even crossed their minds. Fears that the world is against the US and that Americans abroad will face hostility or danger are greatly exaggerated and often completely unfounded.

well said richard.

i have a friend who is studying in paris and she has not seen the hatred of america that is portrayed on television and she is studying at a french university, with french students. do they quesiton and disapprove our government's policies and president bush? yes. but they in no way 'hate americans' like some people are led to believe from watching the anti-war protests on television.

Yes well said by both of you. Too bad some Americans can't feel the same:

I don't think individual US players will feel anti-American sentiments as people in other countries are able to separate dislike for a government and it's policies for dislike of a nation's people.

Goody. More ill-informed, anti-French crap. If you're going to do it, at least do it like Segroves and be funny about it.

Anyway, since I just cut-n-pasted this article for another thread, here's France's recent contribution to the war on terrorism.

Thanks Richard, this is pretty much what I was hoping to get in response.

There was the incident in Glasgow against Reyna right after 9/11 when a fan of Celtic mocked a plane crashing into the WTC.

But I've also hoped that those were isolated idiots, not the general public.

I'm glad to hear that Friedel, Keller, Lewis, Hanneman, etc., won't have to worry.

Of course, I'll be interested in seeing how the US team is greeted at the Confederations Cup in France later this year.

I'm not anti French at all. I like french toast, french fries, and especially, french kissing!

Is that any better?

In all seriousness, my comment wasnt meant to be anti France. The event did happen in Montreal two nights ago. And, for the record, they do speak french as the primary language in Montreal. But to make a broad assumption that Canadians & French hold the same political views towards the US is wrong, and that was not my intent. But, the incident, is what prompted me to start the thread.
