In my opinion

Friedrich - Woerns- Metzelder-Lahm

But I have always been a supporter of the 4-5-1 system for Germany. In that case
=====================Lehmann===============================
===========Woerns==================Metzelder=================
==Friedrich=============Fahrenhorst======================Lahm===
================Frings=============Borowski===================
==========Ballack==========================Schweinsteiger=======
=========================Klose===============================

This is my choice, but it is only a dream and won't come true:

Hinkel............Huth........ Reinhard ..........Schulz

schulz because he recovers quickly whenever he is beaten. hinkel because of pace.

it is only a dream

Man, I am trying not to bash you but this is just hilarious.

With that defense, we would get beaten by Costa Rica 5-0. Hinkel maybe, but the rest....laugh.

Personally I'd go with

Friedrich--Metzelder---Woerns--Lahm

Mertesacker could switch it up with Woerns and Metzelder.

My prefared defense:
Friedrich - Woerns* - Mertesacker - Lahm

* won´t play for Germany again after his coach bashing

But the other guys don´t show good performances:
-Metzelder:
a joke, if you compare him to 2002 form,
at his club the guy was kicked out of the starting 11 by a teen
(wondering, why nobody posted the name Brzenska here)
-Huth:
Is also miles away from playing at his club
(ok, it´s Chelski, but he doesn´t play)
-Fahrenhorst:
Solid "Rückrunde",
but sometimes he does total stupid mistakes,
which can cost the sucess of the whole team
-Reinhardt:
Hyped, because of Hamburg season,
but IMHO is a camp follower, who profits from his teammates,
doesn´t have the skill to stabilize a not solid defense.

What can be expected by Klinsi:
Friedrich - Metzelder/Huth - Mertesacker - Lahm

This is the worse part of German team.

Some player like Metzelder, Lahm are stil not in form they use to be before injuries. Some players like Huth, Mertesaker, Jansen need experience, some players like Woerns, Nowotny are to old (and pretty slow). So who is left? Friedrich, Bauman, Farenhorst. Well from this 3 i pick only Arne.

......................GK.....................

Friedrich........Metzelder.........Huth/Merte...........Lahm

or maybe

Frings........Friedrich........Metzelder..........Lahm
