Jansen has to be in the next England squad
He's the natural successor to Sheringham, who has been very good for England, but is simply too old and physically slow to continue. Jansen has improved since Cole came to Blackburn, and has been playing the best football despite having a double hernia. He has pace, skill, guile and.......a decent left foot.

All three will probably act in rotation, with Cole playing the most as he has played with both Jansen and Yorke. The concensus is that you need 4 or 5 top strikers to succeed, and at the moment we have 2 (clue: not Ostenstadt and Cicco Grabbi ).

One thing's for sure. Jansen won't be in the next England squad. He's not due back from injury until October. That said, Palace legend should be in there when he's fit. Quality guy. Did you know that when we were administration eighteen months ago and the Supporters were trying to raise money to save the club, that Jansen (and Neil Shipperley) both sent in personal cheques? Matt Jansen...respect.

He does strike me as that sort of guy Syd. He just seems to be a good, level-headed professional from what I've seen of him off the pitch. Can't believe Tony Parkes almost got rid of him (and David Dunn). As for England, a lot will depend on his recovery. Hignett had an injury at around the same time, and for around the same time, and he didn't recover the 'match fitness' and form he had for Barnsley.
