Guily wants world cup place
Barcelona midfielder Ludovic Giuly said on Tuesday he deserved a place in France's World Cup squad, despite being out of favour with coach Raymond Domenech.
"I wouldn't understand being left out," Giuly was quoted as saying by sports daily L'Equipe. "Going there is the only thing that matters. If the coach doesn't want me he will have to tell me but I'll do everything I can to be called up."
The 29-year-old has won 17 caps but is not a first choice under Domenech and has not been selected for France's last three games.
French newspapers have repeatedly hinted that Domenech could pick Olympique Marseille's gifted midfielder Franck Ribery instead of Giuly.
Ribery, a key player for the Ligue 1 side, has yet to play for the French senior team.
"He (Ribery) is a good player and he is having a great season," Giuly said. "What I regret is that people easily forget for which club I'm playing, with which players I'm playing and in which championship I'm playing

Re: Guily wants world cup place
Yeah, well.... I think Giuly would be usefull in Germany..... I also think that Ribery would be usefull. I would also like Coupet to play in goal and for Raymundo to call up more then 1 leftback per match.... I guess I'd like a lot of things that aren't going to happen.

Re: Guily wants world cup place
looking at giuly's goal tuesday it's hard to say he doesn't deserve a spot. but you can pick out goals by govou just as boggling, and i wouldn't applaud his "realism". still, ludo is probably a much better finisher than sid.
what surprised me tuesday was to see that giuly was not faster than serginho you could have knocked me down with a feather! i can guarantee you sid doesn't have any problems in that area.
anyway they're both gones, so they should both go!

Re: Guily wants world cup place
i reckon that guily definately deserves a spot...no question about that.
he is a quick player and could work well on the wing crossing the ball in for henry...
he also has a great shot as we saw the goal against ac milan.
i dont know what the french coach is playing at....some stupid mind game with some of the players.
his best intrest should be the success of the french sqaud
and to achieve that he has to select the best players
and guily is definately up there.
i also think he should recall pires to the squad as he has been playing very well at the moment.

He probably dont deserve it ahead of Giuly and Ribery but the manager is a ex Lyon man so that might be the deciding factor.

Well part of being a quality manager is to put biases aside and to look at the true strength of a player and how they will fit in with a squad. You're no longer at Lyon Raymond, this is L'Equipe de France!

i don't buy that raymond's OL past is the reason he's capped so many gones. picking a crowd of players from one team, especially the undisputed leader of the home league, is not uncommon; it gives the squad a core with real team feeling.
govou has no sinecure with les bleus; even in 2005 when houllier preferred him regularly to wiltord, domenech did the opposite. now that nino has overshadowed sid at OL...
shakier in front of the goal than govou is hard to find. but that problem aside it's hard not to be impressed with his work.
compared to giuly he is better with the ball and perhaps his equal w/o it. as fast as giuly is considered to be, govou is faster. they both are getting matches at the top level of the game right now.
ribery is in super form right now. but against whom? nancy? bolton? and i've seen OM on TV as much as any team this year, and he doesn't look that consistent to me .
of these 3 i think giuly/govou is a toss-up and ribery would be a surprise.
