D.C. United, Harrisburg City Islanders to meet on May 9

‘Clash of the Capitals II’ to take place in Josh Gros’ hometown

Washington, D.C. (April 10, 2006) - D.C. United announced today it will take part in a mid-season friendly with the Harrisburg City Islanders of United Soccer League’s Second Division. The game has been set for May 9 at Chapman Field at Cumberland Valley High School in Josh Gros’ hometown of Mechanicsburg, Penn. The match-up is being tabbed ‘The Clash of the Capitals II.”

“We are pleased to return to Central Pennsylvania again this year for a friendly match against the City Islanders,” said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. “We look forward to a nice evening of soccer.”

The match will mark a homecoming of sorts for Cumberland Valley graduates Harisburg’s Derek Potteiger (Class of 1998) and Josh Gros (Class of 2000). Potteiger, Harrisburg’s captain, and Gros, were teammates at Cumberland Valley. Potteiger went on to star at Penn State and Gros at Rutgers before they embarked on their professional careers.

“The City Islanders are proud to bring another premier event to the Midstate,” said City Islanders General Manager Joe Sierko. “The second ‘Clash of the Capitals’ will be in every way just as memorable as the first. Chapman Field is a natural venue for the event, and we have no doubt that the atmosphere will be phenomenal. A big part of holding the event there is the logical connection with the students and the opportunity to facilitate the return of successful alumni.”

In their first-ever meeting last August, United defeated the City Islanders 1-0 in front of a capacity crowd of more than 4,000 at Skyline Sports Complex on City Island.

The match will kick off at 7:05 p.m. Tickets will be $10 in advance and $15 on Match Day. Tickets may be purchased by calling 717-441-GOAL, or by visiting www.cityislanders.com <http://www.cityislanders.com>.

Broadcasting and P.A. Request: When speaking of the organization, please refer to the team as either “D.C. United” or “United,” but not “the D.C. United” or “the United.” We appreciate your cooperation.

I was thinking the same thing. There was another thread about this...in fact I never saw this one until today.

I wish this was going to be played on City island. I'm about 10 minutes away from there. Now I gotta go all the way over to CV high school. Jeez...why did they do that? Don't they know I'm lazy?

I guess that there will be no party at my house...
