Many thanks to the fans who came out this weekend. Largest crowd yet. I think it is good to see more people coming out and supporting the Lions. Keep it up!!

It was a tough game this weekend. The KC Brass have a very good back line and hold togther really well. Lions take one on the chin with a 2-1 loss.

It's alright we will get right back at it this weekend with our first road games. Lions take on Boulder and Colorado Springs this weekend in Colorado.

Lions are back at home June 4th kickoff at 3:00PM vs West Michigan Edge. Be on the lookout for some great promotions for this game.

I'm glad you're here, Shipdawg, because I was wondering why Lions ticket prices are so high. Looking around at our PDL rivals, only Des Moines (the class franchise of the whole PDL) have ticket prices as high as the Lions:

Lions: $9 adults, $7.50 students, $5 kids.

West Michigan: $5, with $15 flex passes for four games.

Des Moines: $9, but they have an actual stadium and are the defending PDL champs.

KC Brass: $6, with kids 10 & under free.

Sioux Falls: $5, with $2 youth tickets.

Boulder Rapids Reserve: $7

Cleveland Internationals: $6

Colorado Springs: $6, kids under 10 free.

Kalamazoo: $3 in advance, $5 at the gate.

I'd love to come to a game or two, but to take my wife and daughter to a game would cost $23 just to get in the door, before refreshments, not to mention gas for the drive to Cottleville. That's mighty steep for amateur soccer - the same experience would only cost $9 in Kalamazoo, $12 in Sioux Falls, and $12 in Kansas City.

I understood that the Lions owned their facility and the players don't get paid. Am I wrong? Is there some other reason that Lions ticket prices are 50%-80% higher than most of their competitors? I'm not trying to start something, I just want to know.

Sorry to throw gasoline on this fire, but the question prompted me to do a little research........

Pertinent to this discussion would be, median household incomes in the cities you asked about, here are a few (rounded figures found on the web):

Boulder $50,523
Colorado Springs $45,081
Kalamazoo $42,022 (cheapest tickets)
Des Moines $42,000 (most expensive)
Sioux Falls $41,221
Kansas City $37,198
St Louis $32,148 (most expensive)
Cleveland $30,098

Problem here is, that none of us understand the full economic situation of these teams. Things such as: What is the status of sponsorship? What other "recreational" pressures/competition is there competing for your leisure dollar? What are the actual expenses for each team?

All I can say is, the USL, and specifically the PDL is an incredible value for your dollar. I am not a paid lackey of the USL, this is my opinion. The quality of the show you get with the USL is, in my opinion, second to none in the US. If you were to give me the option of free tickets (and travel/lodging) to either USL or MLS games-- I'll take the USL tickets any day of the week (and three on Sunday). There is a hunger, urgency, and real passion in these USL players. They love the game......... sorry (as he climbs off his soap-box). Just my opinion.

Jasontoon,

Thanks for visiting and I appreciate your comment. St Louis Lions tickets are priced very competitively in our market place. If you take a look at some of the other sports team in the area you will see that we are very competitive and we offer many opportunities for you to come out enjoy the game at a resonalble price. Here are some examples (based off of 3 people going to a game).

Cardinals....$39
Rams....$132
Blues....$45

Sure these are top level Sports...let's review some other options:
Steamers....$27
Grizzlies....$24
Rascals....$24
Rage....$27
Remember all of the above listed tickets also get a service fee tacked on to the top of them. I did not include the surcharge.

Lions tickets are priced at $9 adult, $7.50 for kids age 13 to 22 and $5 for kids age 5-12. Remember kids that wear soccer jerseys get in for free.
Kids also are invited to the FREE one hour soccer clinic before the game. Taking all of this into consideration tickets for the Lion's would cost you $18....and do not have a surcharge applied to them.

Now I will also say ticket sales are also a source of revenue for teams. If you compare our prices to other teams in the league I think you will find that the revenue we are generating is going back into our team costs and our facilities. It takes a lot of money to put on a game each week and if you have ever visited some of the other teams (Des Moines the exception) I will say they are generating just barely enough money to keep going.

Again Thanks for the question. Oh and sorry but I can't help you on the gas prices. We are all in the same boat on that one.

Unless of course, you owned a major chain of convenience/gas stations.....wait, even then there is no help with the price of gas.

Thanks for the answers, Shipdawg and MenaceFanatic. I'm still going to try to make a game or two, but it might be better for my pocketbook if it's a boys' night out with my friends rather than a family outing!
