Default Red Bull want 80k for Season Opener.

From Jeff Bradley's Blog:

http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog...3dbradley_jeff

"Still, we move on, and from what I'm hearing, Red Bull is mulling over a few very aggressive ideas to put a huge crowd in the seats for the home opener on April 8.

One idea is that Red Bull would simply buy all 80,000 tickets -- making it a sellout -- and try to distribute them to people who will make the drive to the stadium for the game. The hope is that you make a big splash and pray that the fans who come out on Opening Night won't just sit back and wait for the next "free night." The New York Cosmos used to regularly offer free tickets to people who did things like inquire about a checking account at a bank. Personally, I like Red Bull's idea, but only if it's followed up with further aggressive marketing.

The other idea I heard about is that Red Bull is going to see if it can convince Bruce Springsteen to play a couple of songs at halftime. Cool idea, but again, you fear that fans will tailgate through most of the first half, check out Springsteen at the half, then head back out to the parking lot for more food and drink. "

Papering the house? Sounds Disneyesque.

I kind of see it as a free sampling of a new product.

Oh, lord, I hope Red Bull knows what it's doing. Because if you give away 80,000 tickets and nobody shows up ...

I hope they give existing NY season ticket holders a refund for that game.

Do you have the Link to Jeff's Blog? I'd like to give it a read sometime.

Except it's not a new product. It's Year 11 of the same product. They may get a decent number to show, but then what happens for game 2?

Are ticket sales not going well?
