Re: The Party Thread
Fair enough... about 3 years ago when I would have been 17, I switched schools. My parents are seperated, and my dad was going to Reading for the weekend, so in my infinite wisdom I decided it would be a good idea to throw a big one that Friday night and invite everybody from my new school as well as my other mates from home/my old school.
Friday rolls around at it's about 8pm, and all of 2 people have showed up, and I'm getting worried. Next thing, I get a phone-call from a guy from my new school saying there are a good few of them in a group, but they don't know where to go. So I tell them I'll meet them at a place, and run down towards there (leaving my best mate in charge, so to speak). When I get down to them, there must be 25-30 people there, so I'm a bit relieved that the party won't be a complete bust, and we head back to my place.
On the way back to my house we bump into another 20-25 of my mates from my old school, and I'm beginning to think we'll have a pretty packed house. Back home we get, and about 20-30 more of my mates from around the area are already inside (I told my best mate to only let them in). The place is packed, there is a lot of drink and hash/weed going around, and things are quite loud and rowdy. Then I get a phone-call off another mate, saying there are about 5 more of them on their way down, but don't know where my house is, so I sprint down to pick them up.
We get back, and there are no less than 200 people trying to get in that I don't even know. What the hell is going on, I'm wondering? There are the 100-odd of us inside keeping everybody else out, but some slipped there way in. Thirty minutes later, and there is enough drink to fill a half-dozen bars in there, as well as an insane amount of weed (all good), but the place is literally swimming in exctasy and cocaine (not cool), the music is blaring, I am too hammered to realise quite what is going on... oh yeah, and my kitchen table goes up in flames... luckily it was only a spirit burn, so no marks were left.
A girlfriend of a friend comes running into one of the rooms crying about some guy trying to feel her up in the bathroom, and all hell literally breaks loose. I wind up in between two groups of 20, trying to break them up and getting punches in the face intended for others in the process. Eventually, we kick on of the groups out because we finally realise "hey, we don't even know these guys!" and they get into a fight with some of the random people we didn't let in (who were STILL outside several hours later, for whatever reason ), and it got very, very ugly. An ambulance and fire-brigade got called by some neighbours. One of the firemen then told me several neighbours had called the police, and if we didn't break things up soon there would be 'consequences'. So most people stumble home, hammered while about 10 of my mates stayed behind and we literally had to wait until the ambulance/fire-truck had gone and physically remove some of the people who were coked/pilled out of their minds, and to those who don't know - trying to get people on coke/exctasy to do what they don't want to is... challenging, at the best of times. Amazingly, we got the place clean within 2-3 hours (before sunrise) and the lads still there just crashed in mine. We woke up the next day, got a bit whacked, and then everybody headed home for some LONG overdue showers and changed of clothes.
Absolute insanity, and for no less than about 15 months afterwards I would be talking to somebody in a pub/club/whatever, and when I told them my name and the area I lived/hung about, they would give me the same shocked look and say something to the effect of "no way, the same Billy that had that mental party that time?" No joke, I got asked that at least 50 times, and always found it funny.
But don't let it get that out of hand, seriously. It's funny looking back on it, but we were lucky that several VERY bad things didn't happen that night. As in regret-for-the-rest-of-your-life type things.

We had shiny red plastic cups for our *cough* non-alcoholic *cough* beverages. That was fun.

Re: The Party Thread
Hahah, Billy you're a legend.
I've never thrown a billyireland party myself. We didn't really throw parties in college. I think because we were in New Orleans, and all the bars stay open until 6am; there's just no reason to trash your house. I have some good Mardi Gras stories, but they mostly begin with us trying to find a toilet (There's a famous song during carnival in NO called "There Ain't Nowhere to Pee on Mardi Gras Day" -- damn straight, there's not, and it causes all kinds of trouble, believe me). Once I moved to a rural setting in grad school, we had more drunken camping adventures and days at the lake than parties.
Of course I'm an old sober lady now, but I had a couple of good ones back in the day:
My freshman year Undergrad, I got invited to Anne Rice's annual Halloween party in New Orleans. It was a serious costume party. I think I wore a cat woman suit thing OMG, that feels like a thousand years ago. Anyway, the party was completely slammin. Great food and drinks, everyone dressed in sexy high quality costumes. Marilyn Manson played the party, and this was 1996, so he was the shit then. I got to chat with Anne Rice a bit. There were a couple hundred people there; good times.
Maybe my senior year undergrad, I hooked up with a childhood friend of mine in Texas. She had previously dated a member of this alternative country band, and we went to see one of their shows. At the time, the band had a number-one single on the Texas music charts, so they weren't Death Cab For Cutie or anything, but they were very popular for a smallish band. Anyway, we went to the afterparty at this huge suburban Dallas mansion. We hung out in the hottub with some of the band, drank champagne etc. There were some crazy drugs there, but my friend and I just drank a bit. The people there were all kinds of crazy -- they completely trashed the house. They were smashing furniture, breaking things, just tearing the place up; and the guy that owned the house seemed fine with it. I guess he really liked the band's music or something? Anyway, I've never before or since seen anything like it. The cops came, and joined in the festivities. I, in true form, passed out much too early. It was a great party, but once was definitely enough.
And that's all I've got for this thread. I'm retired from partying now.

I can beat that. I was at a party in a friend's house in Dublin last year, sounded something similar to what you described except without the fistfighting. We did, however, have fire jugglers - professional ones, although I'm still not sure who knew them. They were doing their tricks in front of the house all fancy-like with different coloured flames for ages with a huge crowd of people (including randomers) watching before the Gardaí (police, for all you non-Irishers) arrived after the neighbours called - possibly because at one point one of the fire sticks almost rolled underneath a Merc parked across the road. The area the house is in is fairly well-to-do - judges, lawyers, etc, so the street was full of expensive cars. The shit could quite easily have hit the fan, especially since the house was covered in hash, so if the guards had wanted to enter there would have been problems.
For a few months afterwards I kept hearing about it from people I know in Dublin who weren't there and don't know any of the people at the party. Even better, in January this year I got told by a girl here in Belfast about "this mad party in Dublin where they were juggling fire on the street in front of a judge's house - I heard they almost blew up a car!". I think she was about to claim attendance at it before I told her I was there. I still have no idea how the story ended up in a completely different city, especially when neither myself nor the people who owned the house are actually from Dublin or Belfast.
