Thanks to lfcli30 for pointing this out over on the Onion Bag boards. The same person who registered houstondynamo.com has registered newyorkredbulls.com. Re: New York Red Bulls It might be without the S RedBullNewYork.com was registered last August and won't expired until 2015. I am guessing it's from someone from Red Bull. Re: New York Red Bulls How much does it cost to register a trademark? I want to mess with you people's minds by registering a bunch of potential team names in Philadelphia, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Seattle.
Re: New York Red Bulls Domain Name: redbullnewyork.com Created on..............: Mon, Aug 01, 2005 Expires on..............: Sat, Aug 01, 2015 Record last updated on..: Fri, Feb 24, 2006 Administrative Contact: Redbull newyork Antonio Moscatiello 66-25 103 street Apt. 3T Forest Hills, NY 11375 US Phone: 917 379 7896 Email: schmone_b@yahoo.com Interesting that this one's different. Maybe it's something unrelated. But anyway, it really looks like "New York Red Bulls" is gonna be it.
Re: New York Red Bulls Prevent what? You can buy any url you want. But, I think if you are just prospecting and not actually using the name, the laws (unethically) allow a "more legitimate" user of the name to petition the courts for rights to it. Personally, I don't see how urls should be treated differently than any other property (real estate) rights, but that's just me.
Re: New York Red Bulls houstondynamo.com directs people to the MLS Houston website. The question is, is that just out of courtesy or is that the permanent link?
Re: New York Red Bulls Has anyone tried calling the phone numbers or writing an e-mail to the e-mail addresses?
Re: New York Red Bulls funny you should have that as your pic/icon - i was going to comment on how awful the timing of that picture taking was. did they only take one from the whole press conf.?
Re: New York Red Bulls Okay, so prevent was the wrong word, but my point was that it made the process pointless. I think some of the people who sign up URLs, especially of other people's names should get nothing for it. It's not prospecting, it's borderline theft. Profiteering off someone elses name or trademark? It wouldn't be allowed in any other context apart from online. Anyways, back on subject....
Re: New York Red Bulls I think this is a cool thread and all, but I keep getting it confused w/ the other Red Bull threads in a "Ppl's Front of Judea vs. the Judean Ppl's Front vs. the Front of the Ppl of Judea" Monty Python way. Maybe the mods could change the title, adding a "domain name" to it or by merging it w/ the other threads??
Re: New York Red Bulls So does www.dynamohouston.com, meanwhile, www.chicagofire.com doesn't take you anywhere. I think that means it's just temporary.
Re: New York Red Bulls Considering the team's official website would probably be redbull.mlsnet.com, I don't think they have much to worry about. I know there are usually redirects, but ultimately I am guessing this is why most pro leagues have started doing this with their team's sites.
Re: New York Red Bulls So we now have the New York Red Bulls or Red Bull New York, which ever. My question is this: Is Red Bull going to become an "Official" league sponsor? Therefore allowing them to sponsor the Metro's new jersey? Isn't it true that only league sponsors can advertise on team kits?
Re: New York Red Bulls Technically, they wouldn't need to become a sponsor, because the name of the team is Red Bull, and all but 2 clubs put the team name on the jersey. So in that space on the front would be RED BULL instead of MetroStars.
Re: New York Red Bulls I know. That was the old website setup by Tribesoft. I was just trying to show that the order of the name in the website may not even be indicative of what the name of the team ends up being. Dynamo Houston was my case in point, plus I just tried www.chicagofire.com to see if it re-routed me to their official page, which it didn't.
Re: New York Red Bulls I found Fran's obit in the Garden City News: Fran Sullivan Fran Sullivan (nee Ford) born on October 5, 1934. She passed away on August 29, 2005. Re: New York Red Bulls And how does Sierra Mist feel about RedBull? Of course, Pepsico can always buy their own team.
Re: New York Red Bulls obviously the mods do, cuz they changed the title of the thread. And notice how many more hits and responses that this thread has gotten since the change? Coinkidink?
But that's not really the issue. Most of the discussion isn't about the name itself, but the rebranding. If the University of Tennessee suddenly decided to drop "Volunteers" and have their sports teams known as "Tennessee Red Bulls" what would the reaction of the students and alums be?
