    Knave,

Keep seperate or merge as you want:

Via email from V.P. Communications, Doug Hicks:

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The following may be attributed to Kevin Payne, President and CEO of D.C. United:

"Peter Nowak has categorically denied making comments during Friday's exhibition match anything like those attributed to him by Real Salt Lake. The D.C United personnel who were on the bench at the time, including me, heard no such comment nor anything like it. In an angry response directed at the referee following the third reckless and dangerous tackle by a Real Salt Lake player, Peter did shout that the player needed to be 'sent back to hospital.' Among those on the D.C. bench, who heard this clearly, were several African-American players.

The Real Salt Lake technical staff reacted, at that moment, as a group, apparently misunderstanding what Peter had said. D.C. United has confirmed with U.S. Soccer that the match officials also heard nothing like Real Salt Lake is alleging to have been said, despite the fact that the senior assistant referee working the match was within a few feet of Peter when RSL believes they heard the comment in question.

In our view, this incident is 100% a misunderstanding. Those people, that know Peter, know that such a comment would be completely at odds with his character."

    Oh OK; foreign accent thingy.

    Glad that's all cleared up.

Next, Piotr says to referee Abbe Okulaja, 'Why are you
being so ni*gg*rdly with those fouls on my players?'

    Ooooooohhh, drama.

Nowhere near. Just - hopefully - an end to the story.

The only thing that's really come out of this is that
a number of DeeCee fans are just a little bit precious about
    themselves.

You might want to go look up the defanition of slander.

Very odd that they would issue a statement to clarify his words and yet keep them out of context, a degree to wich makes the whole situation only more confusing.

With my very limited knowledge of what actually happened, I still call bullshit.

Not really. Just get ready for more of "that's why you can't pay attention to those idiots on the internet" junk.

This story is now offically dead.

Well, that was interesting for 12 hours. Now, how about that crap lineup Arena's putting out there today.

John Ellinger isn't an idiot on the internet. The players who took offense aren't idiots on the internet.

    I doubt it.

Unless Ellinger is directed by MLS to lie and say he never heard words to the effect of "Send him back to Africa".

The ball is in John Ellinger's court.

ps-What exactly does "send him back to the hospital" mean. Does PN think that the RSL player was trying to send J. Gros "back to the hospital"? (cast on his arm and all)

That's not what I was saying. I'm talking about how everyone on here has reacted without any first hand knowledge and without hearing the other side.

Watch how much this dies down. Additionaly this is what I posted in the other thread (excuse the sarcasim)

    xxxxx

I think people are forgetting how small the league is and how few
people control it. Don't be surprised if this guy (the trailist) is sent packing.

    No victim. No crime.

Can an insignificant American website with less than insignificant news interest about an insignificant American sport with pathetically insignificant ratings equal a sports scandal?

I'm betting not. Drudge says we're getting Chaney coverage again all week. A little thing called the Olympics is on. And it's almost NCAA tourney time.

No oxygen. No fire. This thing has three days to blow up. MAX.

All I'm saying is the "overreaction" dilutes the story. First, it was Nowak's a racist and he's got to go. It's now he said, she said. Later we'll hear from black guys who played for and with Pitor saying how they can't believe this and it can't be true. By then it's air, because it's soccer.

    That's all I'm saying.

And don't be surprised if it's Freddy Adu doing the talking

Was Nowak telling his player to send the RSL player back to the hospital? Or was Nowak telling the ref that the RSL player was sending his player back to the hospital? Which of the players were in a hospital recently? This is such a ridiculous coverup.

If the senior assistant referee was a few feet from Peter and didn't hear it, then that should be the end of the story.

All this has taught me is that DCU fans have no sense of race relations in this country.

Nowak was directing his comment to the RSL coaching staff.

It's not surprising that the AR failed to hear it.

Fixed your post for accuracy, but I suppose you do have a point. I was never one who said... they HAVE to fire him. This is a case which no matter what he said or what's going to happen, MLS is insulated by its lack of scope in the sports market place.
