how do you lot rate litmanen?
when i heard that jari litmanen was free to go the other day, i thought there'd be a bit more interest around the prem. maybe i'm just missing it, but i haven't heard anything about him - save speculation that ajax might be interested in bringing him back.
i thought that he looked pretty solid for you when he got the minutes, although i admit i only saw him 4 or 5 times with the reds. but when i mentioned him as a possibility for spurs (who's striker needs are obvious - and the price seems to be in line with s.o.p.), the responses implied that i was barmy.
to those of you who have seen him regularly over the last couple of years, i ask, does he have anything left?

well...this from an American supporter who's seen Jari on TV about 4-5 times in the last year...but he really played with a ton of heart, and it seemed like many of the times i saw him play, he scored, both as a starter and a sub. he's an absolute class player and probably deserves a full-time shot somewhere else, because he surely won't be getting it at Liverpool. seems like he's a great guy to have in the squad, and i don't want to see him go...but he can probably wants to go somewhere where he'll be allowed to contribute on a much more regular basis.

Personally I'd like to see us keep him.
After all Diouf has never played in the premiership and what if Owen gets (say it quietly) injured.
Mmmmm .. then Jari fills in nicely.

Jari's a class player obviously, great passer and shooter in particular, also a great role-model...never complains despite his lack of minutes, always supports the club, etc.
BUT i dont think he should start...the guys over 30 by now and doesnt really have the legs to go the full 90 in the EPL, and to boot his speed is lacking, and Ged finds speed crucial in his strikers...when i managed to see him, he was always more effective coming off the bench than starting...though methinks Ged should have put Jari in instead of Smicer during That substitution...

Jari is all class and since he left Ajax a few years back it's been rather disappointing to see him go unused in Barcelona and with us in Liverpool. Jari has great skills with the ball at his feet, but what makes him a touch better then the rest is his composure and vision when handed the ball.
It's very disappointing to see him waste away on another European bench. If Jari were to get more paying time this season, then I would be all for keeping him, but if his role is going to be similar to that of last year, I think Jari deserves to be let go.
If you want to make the debate of who should he replace then you have a pickel of a situation. I really would like to see Jari be placed in Heskey's role for awhile. Emile is quality for sure, but i think it's Jari's composure and vision is a step above Emile. Also I think Jari would be a step up in terms of overall quality in comparison to Danny boy as well. Overall I think Jari seems to be all to often left out of the rotation...so maybe if we can slot him in then it would be jusitified to keep him...otherwise I would say let him go if he's only going to be marked as an insurance player. If it's going to be as an insurance role then hold onto Berger rather then using him in the Duff transfer or even slot Biscan into that role...still don't understand the purchase of Biscan...he's to big and solid to be pushed off onto the reserve team.

He is the Finnish Magician IMO. He may not be able to go a full 90, but he can give you alot for 70-75 minutes. I thought he would have been great behind two strikers, or as a slightly withdrawn striker with Owen or Heskey up front. It really is a mystery to me why he didn't play more last season especially when Heskey went over twenty matches w/out scoring. I know there is more to the game than scoring and Heskey's work rate was always very good, but at the end of the day we need the opposition to be picking it out of the back of there net. I wish Jari had gotten more of an opportunity. Apparently his contract has been scaring people off. Ajax don't want to meet his wage demands. That may be the case with other clubs as well.

He's not the fastest in the world, but he knows how to score goals out of nothing...I would easily start him before Heskey.
