We've all seen this type of thread before and how it can rapidly degenerate. Rather than going down that route, I would hope that we can keep this on track and get some good discussion from it. So instead of just posting a track or album that you are currently listening to, post someone about it and let us know why you like it. Seeing as I am here first, I'll start us off...

Here's some classic commercial trance from the latter 90's. I left this scene behind as we entered the new millenium, but when I hit university the guy in the room next to me was a DJ from Northern Ireland and he thrust me straight back in. We spent many a late night creating sets, doing mixes and digging out obscure vinyl. When I got involved with our Union, I had him DJ for me on numerous occasions. We prefer hard trance, but when doing a night we build into that by starting with commerical trance. For what it's worth, this track was one of the very best and a personal favourite of mine. It takes me back to some crazy times and I just love the way it kicks off. I know I asked for comments about why you like it, but with music of this nature it's really tough. I suppose the best explanation is what happens to the floor when you mix into it. It's one of those classic tracks that gets almost everyone up, including those not really interested in the genre. It takes you back to a defining moment of your life. As a DJ, that is priceless. I'll leave it to someone else to describe the artist in question. I wouldn't be able to do him justice.

I just had some Oakenfold going the other night, mostly stuff of of Tranceport, but a bit from Bunkka as well. I know BT is a little fluffier, but I like his stuff as well.

Not much that I can say that isn't already known about R.E.M. One of my favorite, if not my favorite, bands ever. Also important for me as a southerner to support great music from the south. Despite the many great records they have put out over their long and illustrious career, Murmur is still my favorite and what I feel to be the best. From the album title to the jangling guitars and the mumbled, barely coherent lyrics, the entire record has a very mysterious air surrounding it that I quite enjoy. I have never been able to figure out what exactly it is that Michael Stipes is getting at with some of his lyrics, but they blend in perfectly with the atmosphere the music creates. This album is truly just a 'sit back, relax, and enjoy' kind of experience. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind

You have heard the songs even if you don't know it. Everyone knows TEB songs. If you like 90's rock (its just straight rock is all I can describe can't think of another 'genre') then this is the best there is, plain. The singles are all great, and actually, all the songs are great in their own way. It's one of my favorite albums and definatelly my favorite rock album (I'm more of a hip hop and electronica type of guy, I really like BT btw even though its extremely poppy sometimes still good stuff). 'Jumper' is probably up there on the top 200 songs of all time I would have to say. And some of the lesser known songs are definatelly as good if not better than the known singles. The lesser knowns are also slower alot of the time. This band had great music and lyrics. Unfortunatelly their lead guitarist (whom I believe wrote alot of the catchy hooks) left the band for their latest album (in 2002 probably) and they are supposedly lost alot of their catchyness. This is the best of TEB.

Tesos (or anyone else for that matter), you listen to any downtempo, chill out, lounge, etc?

I listen to quite a bit of electronic music and jazz (etc), so no doubt some of it would fall under those genres. It really depends on your definition. What groups do you listen to?
