Because of his recent record at Lyon at home and abroad.

His record as French coach was crap though....

Lyon are in such a good shape financially, physically and spirtiually. A chimpanzee could manage them to the top of the league this season.

Losing to Bulgaria, who were really impressive in 1994, and finishing behind Sweden, who finished 3rd is no disgrace1` It was the hardest qualifying group, for sure!

You play your two final games at home against Israel and Bulgaria, and you only need one point yet...

This said, he's currently amongst the good French coaches but he's not alone.

Well, considering the Bulgarian performance in 1994, and qualifying for 96, when they beat Germany 3-2, it is no disgrace. But, the loss to Israel on the other hand, sheesh.

Your right that was an aweful group.... But with PLG and Didier Deschamps jobless at the moment..... Seems hard to see GH going back to the nats. And why would he want too? Take a paycut, and get all the grief in the world?

With Lyon he can win L1 each year, and make a run at European glory. With France, anything short of a semi-final appearance will cost him his job...... Not the best situation.
