Should We Have Ordered From FIFA?

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- Another 250,000 tickets for the World Cup finals went on sale Monday, and organizers said 30,000 orders were placed within an hour.
Organizers said there were tickets available for 63 games -- all but the opening match in Munich between host Germany and Costa Rica.
Organizing committee spokesman Jens Grittner said 90 percent of tickets requests by Monday afternoon came form Europe, the majority outside Germany.
|
USSF made it seem as though we had better odds of getting tickets through them during the presale than by going through FIFA. However, I'm now afraid that I would have had a better chance of getting the tickets from FIFA. I would still like to go ahead and place an order through FIFA but I'm afraid that is when they will finally decide to enforce rules and both my orders will be cancelled.

Re: Should We Have Ordered From FIFA?
I think FIFA accepts orders through mid-January and then there is a lottery.
If USSF makes decisions early enough, an order rejected by USSF could be resubmitted to FIFA. Right?

Good point. I forgot that FIFA was doing this as a lottery and not fcfs.

People who want to get tickets for US games are going to be able to get tickets.

I know this is my plan of attack. Mid Jan by the 15th I believe, so the USSF better let us know before that timeframe so that we can enter into a new lotto

I just think people are inflating how much demand there is going to be for tickets to games involving the USA. Americans don't care, and Europeans think that we're not good enough to worry about.

I really, really hope you're right. But I'm a little more pessimistic.

I think FIFA accepts orders through mid-January

That is indeed correct. The "sale" that started Monday was actually an application for tickets that you could submit online. This runs until Jan. 15, 2006 I believe. And it is not first-come-first-served. You submit your app. and then a lottery is held (at the end of Jan. 2006, I believe) from all the applicants who are then awarded tickets if their number is drawn.
From what I understand the USSF will notify by the end of December, 2005 whether you have tix from them. So for those of us who struck-out with the USSF (and I'm thinking I'll be one of them), you should have time to apply through FIFA. The time you apply will have no bearing, as all the applications will be thrown together for the "lottery."

...and if it works like it did for the previous lottery rounds, they'll release the tickets people ordered, but didn't pay for, back into the wild, one at a time, which is how a good chunk of us got our tickets back in August. Watch the ticket shop throughout February.
