Re: Is Marseille considered the biggest club in France?
marseille is still the most popular due to its victory in the champions league in 1993... so that whole young generation who saw that still have marseille in their heart because that team was amazing... now, l'ol is by far the best team in france and biggest when talking about finances, MUCH BIGGER... lyon's budget is probably almost double marseille's now...
psg is either the 2nd or 3rd most popular club and will (my theory) get bigger in the years to come... in the next decade it will be bigger just because its paris and had a huge fan fase... so after lyon, i say PSG takes over... but that could be a LONG while... also, don't forget that saint-etienne is still in many french people's hearts due to how they played in the 70's and 80's... les verts is still a VERY popular club in france

i remember watching a ligue 1 match and the commentators mentioned that OL has overtaken OM as the most popular club in france by a slight margin

Depends where you are at in France.... Anyone who lives in the "midi" is an OM supporter. Lyon is starting to build its own base, but I think Lyon does better in Paris than Marseille.
So long as Anigo is at the club, Marseille will soon be overtaken by FC Perpette la Gallette in popularity.

Midi, is the midieval term that reffers to southern France. There are several geographic features (canal du Midi, Pic du Midi, etc...) that contribute to this appelation. L'accent du Midi refers to the Southern accent in France.
As for titles, I think it's OM with 8 that leads the way, but again, I could be wrong here......

The professional league appeared in 1932, and the club that has got the greatest number of titles is St-Etienne (10 titles, which is very few compared to other championships).

Re: Is Marseille considered the biggest club in France?
good, thats what makes the french championnat so much better than other leagues... seeing the same team win isn't fun after a while (even if i'm at awe with lyon, they are really amazing and could win the CL)... Reims back 50 years ago, saint-etienne in the 70's and 80's, marseille in the 90's, and lyon now are basically the dynasties... waiting for paris to gon that list
