This may not be the best place for this...but here goes nothing:

I just got a sony PSP, and I'm looking to purchase a soccer game for it. I was always a FIFA guy before, but I've heard a lot about Winning Eleven (now 9). As the dunce I am, I was wondering if someone could clarify- does WE not have any player names due to licensing? Frankly, if Henry and Mad Jens can't score and play keeper respectively, I think I'll stick to FIFA (even though the PSP version doesnt have a career mode, which is terrible). Which game should I buy? It'll be a while till the 07 models, so I'm likely to buy one soon.

I know this has been brought up before, but any help is much appreciated.

Yes, it has been brought up before and usually leads to fights.

Before the bombs get thrown, I am saying my peace and getting out of Dodge.

First of all, I am a Xbox man (orig and 360) so these comments are only guaranteed valid for those systems and PC.

WE does not have a license agreement. FIFA does.

FIFA 2006 Road to the World Cup got gutted and lacks club teams and a career mode.

Some people find WE better because they feel it is more realistic in playability. Some people prefer to get to see real player and real stadia.

All is really in the eye of the beholder. Enjoy and never forget: videogames are like sex, even when you're bad at it you are still having fun and bad video games are like sex with ugly chicks, enjoy yourself just don't tell your friends what you've been doing.

I don't know if it's out yet, but Football Manager is supposed to be doing a PSP version. But then, you might as well just stick a needle in your arm.

I know a lot of people who are actual fans of the sport really like Football Manager (also an EA product if I remember correctly). Could you give a brief description of what it is like. I have always been a FIFA guy but, the newly released version was so dissappointing, I am shopping around.

And it was all in black and white! No fancy color graphics because those didn't exist way back when.

Football Manager is the current incarnation of the old Championship Manager series following the split between Sports Interactive (who made the game) and Eidos (who I think mostly did the marketing, and got the Championship Manager name in the split). It's marketed in the states (kind of) as Worldwide Soccer Manager, I think by Sega. FM2006 was released in October. It's not a joystick game. You do the contracts, sign the players, design the training and tactics, pick your lineup, then sit back and watch in frustration as they play the matches. It can be amazingly close to reality at times -- reading the Reyes thread is really interesting right now because in my game he's one of my top players. I play him on the left, he rarely scores, but he creates lots of goals, and has become a tenacious worker going back.

Here's the SI website -- there's a free demo you can download that lets you play for 6 months (game time, not real world). As I said, I don't know if the PSP version is out yet. If you try it, be prepared for the end of all your human relationships.

It was so much easier in the days of solo subbuteo.
