If we win this game, and Betis don't win at Anfield, we're through. (Unless Betis scores about 7 against Anderlecht.) If we don't, we might need a result against 'Pool at home to go through.
i'd like to see both us and Liverpool win, so we don't have to go through all the "what if" scenarios. I don't expect anything less than a win for us. I haven't heard anything about Maka yet, but the tackle looked nasty. His knee looked like it got twisted pretty badly.
I would like to see it come down to us beating those scouser b’stards at the bridge and sending them out of the competition - but hey that’s just me
that would be very sweet indeed, but if..........see, there i go again. Let's just worry about Anderlecht first.
Yep. I think we can beat them. I think we should beat them. BUT we still have to beat them. happy belated? birthday btw - Scorpios best star sign by far
i think this is a must-win for us. If we dont, we are going to have a lot of pressure going into the last group game against Liverpool. Let's start w/ Crespo because his record in Europe is decent, and he is a big game player!
we need 3 points here. even a draw will put us in a very dangerous position, with betis breathing down our necks. i wonder if liverpool will take it easy and 'let' betis win, or play for a draw. anderlecht has nothing to lose so they should come at us, playing at home and all. hopefully, that'll work out in our favor. so with maka out, i'm assuming: gallas--terry--carvalho--del horno lamps--essien--eidur duff--drogba--cole i'd like to see us mix it up a bit and go with only 3 defenders (keeping carvalho on the bench) but i imagine mourinho will want to start with a solid back 4 from the beginning.
Frankly, if we can't win this game, we don't really deserve to progress. Anderlecht have been appalling in Europe the past two seasons.
Soccernet is reporting 3 weeks. I do not want to face Liverpool without Claude needing a result. We should just beat Anderlecht.
that still wouldn't be enough if Betis somehow manages to beat Pool. We'd still have to get a result at the Bridge.
it's very likely that Maka wont be playing against Anderlecht, i think Jose is gonna field a 442. ----------------Crespo -----Robben/Guddy Duff--------------------JCole --------Lamps ----------------Essien DelHorno--Terry--Gallas--Ferreira --------------Cech Maka's def ability and sense > that of Essien (he likes driving forward more than Maka).. thus we need a not-so-attacking-minded back 4 (Ferreira at RB instead of Gallas) Robben (if he's fit) and Guddy will be given a free role just behind Crespo.. i think it is their best position there. (less def work for Robben, Guddy closer to goal to make killer 1-2 pass for wingers and CF) SWP and Drogba will be subbed in if there is change of tactics or if some fresh legs are needed)
