L1 thread prematch/postmatch, whatever
beside the fred thread there's nothing here about the ASM match. we probably won't get enough traffic to merit a separate thread for each match, but now that OL Café isn't where everything happens, we need at least one thread like this.
i'll start with some impressions of the ASM match other than what's already in the fred thred (fread thread?)
tiago: tantalizing. what i saw looked classy, but there wasn't that much of it. he'll need to bring more volume to his game to make us forget essien.
govou: sizzling. i've never seen him play that well. a greyhound going up the field, a bulldog when he got the scent of the goal.
ben arfa:dazzling. with OL's heavy schedule, he'll get enough matches to come into his own this year, and if they're like this one it will be sweet to watch. the center to fred was surgical, and he set it all up himself. what's more, he ran down gigliotti once in the second half and showed that all the snot's out of his nose forever.
piccirillo: ASM can feel they got some bad breaks from the referee, he really was poor. but really, if they had got the penalty and the point it would have been robbery. they were outplayed the whole match fair and square.
champagne:OL put on the top hat and tails for this one. a festival. berthod-ben arfa-berthod-govou-juninho-berthod-govou-ben arfa was that close to being one of the prettiest goals i've seen in my life.

On the whole, I agree with you, but...I wasn't exactly
impressed by Diarra's "I've fallen and I can't get up"
act on Kapo's second yellow/ red card.
Honestly, I'd rather not see this...

I'm assuming that Ben Arfa played the whole match because Juninho and Malouda were on national team duty that week so they got some rest. Same thing with Carew and Wiltord not playing and Frau getting in instead.

it was at the complete other end, but i believe what i've heard, that diarra simulated. i'm not pleased either...
on the other hand, kapo's first card could have been red from the get-go, he really hurt cris.
the kicker is that piccirillo didn't see any of it; the first biscotte came out well after the foul (which he hadn't called) on the line judge's advice.

Ben Arfa is a striker, so he probably started because
Carew/Wiltord were on NT duty, yes
Juninho started and was sub'ed at mid. second
half by Malouda.

ben arfa is on the roster as a striker, but for players like him, malouda or govou it's kind of academic... on OL's roster malouda is a midfielder and govou a striker; when they're listed on the NT... it's the opposite!
ben arfa filled malouda's spot in the scheme saturday. when malouda came in he moved back a notch but stayed on the left.

Ben Arfa doesnt play striker for the team. Fred, Carew, Wiltrod, and Frau are the 4 strikers.

I have seen Ben Arfa play striker for Lyon, and that is where he plays for the U-21's.
