Default Ruiz or Cardoza

One dominated MLS, on is dominating the MFL.

Which would you rather have?

Arrow Ruiz or Cardozo

Jose Saturnino Cardozo is the total package. He has proven himself in all levels of the game. The only thing Ruiz has going for him is that he had a good sesason with the Galaxy. Lets wait and see if el Pescadito can prove his worth outside of MLS.

This is very true, Ruiz's success is not unprecendented, nor is a quick fall from the perch in the following season.

If the question is who would you rather have for right now.. Well, perhaps for the short term Cardozo would be the surer choice to perform..
It's not an easy choice though, as Ruiz showed again and again that he will come through when it's needed and will put his chances away at a very high rate. I really don't like the remark stating wait to see if Ruiz can prove his worth outside of MLS..
MLS teams have shown very well that they are at least a match for the MFL and will likely leave that league in the dust in a few years.. Doing rather well againts them for a very new league.
Teams made up of mostly MLS players have been making the Mexican Nats look rather weak in the last few meetings with the exception of the one match in Mexico City, and that was not a very convincing win as the US wins over Mexico have been lately..
I feel some fear coming from a lot of posters who may be fans of MFL and the rest that in a few years that if soccer should really take off in the US and the infrastructure for player development should really get into place in the richest country in the world, the US will never look back and make international and club competition around the globe a contest for who can be 2nd best.. It could happen... If the interest does reach the level here it has in most other countries someday, it will happen. Population + Resources will do it..

WC-2002 Quarterfinals.. USA 2 - Mexico 0
Goals by Brian McBride (MLS) and Landon Donavan (MLS) Strategy by Bruce Arena.. (MLS to Nats)

i saw the game chivas vs toluca. They marked Cardozo pretty good the first half, but in the second half chivas had a 3 goal lead and started to sit back.

then Cardozo got going and was unstoppable.

Cardozo is unstoppable in all aspects. Obviosuly he can finish. His passing and creating is just nothing but spectacular. His flick-ons and back heels are just perfect.

That's just one series.. If you want the entire story it is in the MLS's favor in the last 3-4 years..and it was pretty even before that..

This was a team in it's first year..
Wednesday, June 12, 1996
San Jose Clash 2 vs.UNAM Pumas (Mexico) 1

Sunday, July 6, 1997
Los Angeles Galaxy 1 vs. Guadalajara (Mexico) 0

Wednesday, July 30, 1997
Los Angeles Galaxy 4 vs. Santos Laguna (Mexico) 1

A series of draws early in MLS history:

Tuesday, September 16, 1997
Kansas City Wizards 1 vs. Veracruz (Mexico) 1

Friday, November 7, 1997
San Jose Clash 1 vs. Atlas (Mexico) 1

Wednesday, November 12, 1997
Los Angeles Galaxy 1 vs. Atlante (Mexico) 1

Dallas gets creamed:
Friday, July 11, 1997

Dallas Burn 0 vs. Guadalajara (Mexico) 5

This was in Mexico:
Tuesday, March 7, 2000

New England Revolution 7 vs. Atlas (Mexico) 1

Including our version of the Champions League.. In the first years of MLS, 1996 - 2000..
Against Mexican teams:
MLS: 14 wins
MFL 12 wins
8 Draws.. Now friendlies or not (not all were) for a new league to have a record like that is an indication of something.. At least of a competative league..In 7-10 years, tops, I would expect no one would pick the MFL as stronger than MLS, if the improvement continues. Look what's occurring with Mexico's youth teams.. They are not getting out of the region anymore.. The US youth players are winning silver and bronze boots and balls at tourney finals..
