Default Newcastle v Charlton [R]

2-1 to our boys.

bartlett scores for charlton in the 30min, only for.....wait for it......ANDY GRIFFIN to equalize 7 minutes later. Robert gets off his rear to score in the 59th, and its game, set, match to the toon.

1-1 - Andrew Griffin (37)

And, finally, a positive goal differential.

6 Middlesbrough 18 (+7)
7 Blackburn Rovers 18 (+5)
8 Newcastle United 16 (+1)
9 Fulham 15 (+4)
10 Leeds United 14 (+1)

Yeah, well, GRIFFIN! Holy crap. Damn near dropped my coffee when they announced that while I was watching Liverpool-Blackburn this morning.

And thanks to bungling at the top of the table, we sit only 3 points out of 3rd place with a game in hand.

Not to parade an overused phrase, but... the season starts here.

too bad the match with Ukranians is Tuesday...

A win vs. Kiev puts the lads back in thick of Champs League

The lads will be fine on Tuesday.

Saturday was a very good team performance, marred slightly by giving away a soft goal - both O'Brien and Bramble at fault.

Generally, the standard of play was good. While I usually shudder watching Shola Ameobi play for us, I thought Saturday was the best performance I have seen from him.

We scored two excellent goals and had many other close misses.

Now that Robert has got his first goal, and generally played well throughout, I think we will see him back to last season's form. If Lua Lua isn't fit, I would like to see him support Shearer up front on Tuesday, with Viana coming in on the left side of midfield.
