It is his allocated number - being as he has been at the same club all his career there would have been no need to change it.
It is his trademark number though so i doubt he'd ever change it.
Traditionally the number 7 was worn by right wingers in the old days - this position has been replaced largely over the years by right midfield where Becks plays.
