anyone know why adin brown left to go to Norway? were things not working out for him, with the Revs? too bad if that is the case. he was supposed to be a machiene in net for the rapids. and many even said would be a great national kepper. doesnt look like thats gonna happen.
I think he's getting a better salary in Norway. Last year he had tons of problems with injuries - concussions I think. Matt Reis showed he's fully capable of starting so the Revs probably prefer him for salary cap reasons. Probably a mutual decision though I'm not sure we ever found out all the reasoning.
where is Zizi Roberts, someone said he's playing in Malaysia, but i just find that so hard to believe he really was a great player.
In this morning's Rocky, in an article commemerating the all-Rapids team http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/rapids/article/0,1299,DRMN_51_3879499,00.html
Yeah, it's really too bad that the quakes didn't make an offer for him. Aim higher Spenny. Aim higher.

Fer you Paule fans ... (remember ... bugmenot.com) http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/other_sports/article/0,1426,MCA_1757_3883845,00.html
On his way to the brain-injury specialist in Denver, Ross Paule tried not to think about his soccer career, hanging in the balance. Whether the Memphis native played another soccer match for the Columbus Crew was out of his control. Dr. James Kelly, a renowned neurologist, would evaluate Paule -- as he has done many professional athletes with multiple concussions -- and decide if the 29-year-old midfielder could continue pursuing his passion. Advertisement The most recent concussion, during a training match in Charleston, S.C., had looked like nothing, really. Paule leaped for a header, an opponent's elbow or shoulder -- Paule still isn't sure which -- jarred his head out of position and, smack, the ball hit Paule in the face. The impact was not severe, the force not overwhelming. Paule had shrugged off much bigger collisions in his years playing soccer, first on the rec fields in Germantown, then at the highest levels of NCAA soccer and now as a respected veteran of Major League Soccer. Paule kept playing, thinking the buzz would settle. There was some denial, too. Multiple concussions the previous fall had prematurely ended Paule's 2004 season, one of his most productive ever. Doctors had stressed that another concussion might mean the end of his career. "It was obvious to the coaches and trainers and me," Paule said. "It slowed me down. My reactions were slower." In the days that followed, Paule displayed many of the symptoms of post-concussion syndrome, a condition that occurs after a multiple or severe concussions: dizziness, memory deficits, sleeplessness, mood changes. Trainers sent him to see doctors in Columbus, who recommended he see Kelly. Much as he hated the thought of retiring, Paule knew Kelly would likely recommend it. It was hard to imagine it now -- he was in the prime of his career, still improving, still believing that a strong 2005 could earn him consideration for a spot on the 2006 U.S. World Cup squad. And yet, he remembered what the doctors and trainers had been telling him. The next time he went down, he might not get back up. Or, if he did, he might lose his memory and float through the rest of his life, much like an addled boxer who had taken one too many to the head. Ross and his wife, Laurie, had been sweethearts at Houston High, and they had three young children -- 5-year-old Jorden, 3-year-old Emma and an infant son, Ross Jr. It tortured him to weigh the possibilities, so he followed the advice his mother, Dorothy, had given him when he called her back home in Germantown. "You've got to take it one day at a time and take care of yourself," she had told him. "No matter what the doctor says, you are going to be OK." A prodigious start Last fall, Dorothy Paule was cleaning out the attic at her Germantown home when she found the uniforms her four sons had worn over the years. "Some of them were teeny-tiny," Dorothy says. Dorothy and her husband, Greg, can remember when 4-year-old Ross played for the Burke-Hall Bullets, his older brother's 6-year-old team. The small (the Paules are slight people) but athletic Ross began the year on the bench, but finished it on the field. One of Greg's favorite Ross moments, to this day, came that season, when little Ross hit a shot from the edge of the box and sent a rocket into the top of the net for a goal. "Nobody could believe what came off that 4-year-old's foot," Greg says. "Of course, at that point, nobody is thinking any more than it was a great shot." Back then, in the '80s, nobody could have imagined a thriving, respected professional soccer league in America, much less some kid from Germantown as one of its best players. The Paules moved around some when Ross was young -- to Kansas City and to Dallas -- before returning for good to Germantown. By then, Ross had settled on soccer as his sport -- the continuous action trumped his other love, baseball -- and when he landed on a now-famous Memphis Futbol Club squad that produced five successful professionals, it was clear that the prodigious moment as a 4-year-old was no fluke. Ross starred at Houston, then at Creighton, a power in college soccer. He turned pro after his junior year, married Laurie and quickly made an impact with the club that drafted him, Colorado. It was with the Rapids, in 1998, that Paule suffered his first significant head injury. It happened, like many that followed, in a midair collision while going for a header. Soccer coaches, trainers and doctors will tell you that a properly headed ball will not cause a concussion; it's the contact leading up to it that creates the risk. An elbow caught Paule's cheekbone and knocked him out, cold. This was a road game, in Tampa, and Laurie, pregnant with Jorden at the time, watched on satellite horrified as Ross lay unconscious, his shivering arm the only sign of movement. Greg and Dorothy were at a wedding rehearsal dinner in St. Louis, and Greg had stepped out to call Ross's brothers in Memphis for a game update. "Ross is down, Dad," they told him. "Well, he's got to get up," Greg said. No, they told him. He's out and being strapped onto a stretcher. Laurie had called Dorothy -- "Who could be calling?'' Dorothy remembers thinking -- and she was crying. "All they kept showing on TV was his arm shaking uncontrollably and the rest of him not moving," Laurie says. "It was scary." In the years that followed, Ross would get the occasional knock to the head and assorted other injuries, but it was not until last fall that anything serious happened. The first blow came in a collision with another player, going for a header. The second was a deflection off his head, while standing in a free kick wall. When a cross blindsided him and caused another, Ross began to feel very unlucky and very much at risk. (Still, he stresses, he was not afraid of headers, just the midair battles for them.) "The thought of seeing him on the field and being in danger, that was tough," Laurie says. The Crew, one of the best teams in MLS in the regular season, was upset in the playoffs without Paule, but he enjoyed a symptom-free offseason and looked forward to training camp. Then came the preseason. Then came the minor collision with major consequences. Dr. Kelly, who has advised professionals in many sports, evaluated him twice. He delivered his opinion -- his verdict -- very matter of fact. "You cannot play again," Kelly told him. "We are not going to clear you, now or ever." Just like that, Paule's career was over. Just like that, the livelihood he pursued with such passion was taken away. "It was just hard to hear it," Ross says. The Crew offered Paule a chance finish the season as an assistant coach. Ross broke the news to his teammates in an emotional meeting. "It's just so sad to see someone of his ability -- he may be 29 but he's a spring chicken -- have to retire," says Duncan Alton, a Crew teammate. "Look at Ross's situation, and it's heartbreaking. When Ross told the team, Alton says, "He definitely did get a tear in his eye in the middle of his talk, and when you see someone else tearing up, you feel like it, too." Moving forward Earlier this month, Ross was back in Memphis, visiting with Richard Bute, his old Memphis Futbol Club mentor. Stories about Bute are legendary among his former players -- Paule once had his captain's armband stripped when he missed a Saturday practice because his mother had planned a birthday party. But Bute taught Paule and his MFC teammates like Richard Mulrooney, Carey Talley and Jonny Walker, how to take a professional approach. That has helped Ross deal with the premature end to his career. "Ross got a personality similar to me as far as approaching things he cannot control," says Bute, a Polish immigrant who played indoor soccer in Memphis. "This is one of those situations, what can you do? Why meditate and use energy on something you cannot help? "He say, 'Hey, I'm a lucky guy. I do for many years what I love to do.'" That's been the attitude, for the most part. "I don't want people to feel sorry for me," Ross says. "It is what it is and I can't do anything about it. I'm not going to focus on what I don't have. I'm focusing on what I do have." Occasionally, regret inevitably bobs to the surface. At a recent Crew game, when all the kids came down to the field for photos, and Laurie saw Ross holding eight-month-old Ross Jr. "That's bittersweet," Laurie says. "He's only eight months old and will never remember it at all. Ross's son will never get to see him on the field with the uniform on, ready to go." On the other hand, "It's that or not having Ross remember us in eight years." In eight years, Ross hopes he'll be coaching his son. There are no definite plans, though Ross and Bute have talked about working together in some capacity. "I still have that same passion for the game of soccer," Ross says, "and I can use that knowledge and experience I have to help kids play the game they love and have their dreams come true, too." Says Bute: "Soccer would be a winner having someone like him coaching." Ross and Laurie have already begun building a house in Lakeland, with Laurie and the kids moving next month, so Jorden can begin kindergarten. Ross will follow after the MLS season. It may be time for Dorothy to bring those uniforms out of storage and see how they fit the next generation of Paules. That's the giddy flipside to Ross Paule's predicament, of course. It's not just that he's coming home. He's bringing the whole family with him. "Ross's grandparents, they said, 'The thought of you coming home so we can get to know your kids and they get to know us, means everything,'" Laurie says. "That hit home. Good things can come of this."
Go Rapids.... Thanks a million for sharing that article. We met Ross and his family when they first played with the Rapids and I have felt absolutely terrible upon learning of his condition. Ross was a great young midfielder who played well for the Rapids, but he really came into his own in Columbus. I wish we had someone as talented in our current midfield. The tone of the article leads me to believe that Ross has a pretty positive attitude and hopefully, he'll bounce back and somehow stay active in soccer which he loves. Lance Key seems to have found a second carrer as a soccer coach in Texas as some one pointed out in another post. All the best to Ross and his family in his future endeavors.....adios and thanks again for sharing this info.

Daryl Powell ... on trial at Coventry City ... http://iccoventry.icnetwork.co.uk/0...heat-s-on-big-names-to-deliver-name_page.html 8/1 ... The heart of the midfield looks relatively comfortable with Michael Doyle linking up once more with the skip-per, with the prospect of Darryl Powell and Isaac Osbourne as backup, subject to Powell being successful in getting a contract.
Zach Kingsley owes me a beer and I want to track him down. Seriously, any idea what happened to him after the Rapids. He was a smart guy who seemed to have his act together.
