Question German Surnames+German Football?

Mattes and Kahler. Those are the last names in my family that are German. One of them is my current last name.

Did anyone ever play for German National Team or Bundesliga 1 or 2 club with a similar last name???

Thank you very much for any links or information that you can provide. Been workin on the old family tree again.

No problem. Maybe the name was somehow changed when they immigrated, happened quite often.

I have been told that is a very real possibility. I found a city council member in a really small town outside of Nurnberg with Mattes as a last name.

There have been some players who are called similar to mattes.

For example there has been a player with the name Matthes (Paul) who has played for the german NT in 1908.

And if you look at it Mattes sounds also quite similar to Matthaeus! So who knows?

Do you look similar to him?:
