Ponting's Bat- Gimme a break
ICC to Debate Pontings Bat
this is rediculous- the sticker of his bat is causing this much trouble. his bat is also re-inforced with graphite on the back, but according to the rules, it doesn't seem to be breaking them.
the above article doesn't mention the sticker he has on the back of the bat, but i read somewhere else their have been complaints.
more on it from ricky-
Ponting- whats the fuss?

Re: Ponting's Bat- Gimme a break
They hassled Murali for his suspect bowling action, and in baseball they hassled Sammy Sosa for his supposedly corked baseball bat. The least they can do is investigate if Ponting's bat (the graphite thing) does or does not have anything which is against the rules. If it doesn't, matter closed and finished. How can we on a message board decide that it does or doesn't violate rules without knowing any specific details?

Re: Ponting's Bat- Gimme a break
ahhh, quicker than i thought-
from this article
Under MCC laws, strengthening the bat is explicitly allowed.
Rule 6.2 states: The blade may be covered with material for protection, strengthening or repair. Such material shall not exceed 1.56 millimetres in thickness, and shall not be likely to cause unacceptable damage to the ball.

Re: Ponting's Bat- Gimme a break
This just the usual mind games that are played leading up to & during an Ashes Test series. Anything to put off the team from focusing on cricket. Won't work for the pommies, though. Ricky will do his usual demolishion job on their bowlers, even with a borrowed bat, if necessary.

I can understand why the Poms are complaining about Ricky Ponting's bat. After all, they'll be complaining that they can't get a ball past his bat when the test matches start!

Re: Ponting's Bat- Gimme a break
Seems a bit ridiculous for something Ricky himself has described as 'pretty much a sticker to make the bat a bit different'.
As far as I know it dosn't give the bat any extra power (and why would it?)-it just supposedly lengthens its life a little. Sort of like how those Nike shirts stop you from sweating eh?
I'm sure he'll be fine to use it come the Ashes series.
