Default Lyon news

Ok so if we want a OL forum then we have to post a lot about them so here we go. Theres a lot of recent news all this info is taken from http://skysports.planetfootball.com/league.asp?cpid=24

Aulas hopeful over Le Guen

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is confident coach Paul Le Guen will stay at the club.
Le Guen is in high demand around Europe following his success at Lyon.
Manchester City are believed to be keen on Le Guen as a possible successor to Kevin Keegan, while a number of other top clubs are believed to be monitoring his situation.
Le Guen's contract expires at the end of the season and the club's fans have even set up petitions to try and persuade the former French international to stay at Stade Gerland.
"I am confident that Paul Le Guen, who is very important for the club, will stay with us

He'd be a fool to go Manchester City I think. They are going no where over there and their in debt.

Claudio Cacapa is looking to make his Lyon return after proving his fitness in a midweek friendly.

The defender has been sidelined since picking up a knee injury in October and saw a proposed return in February delayed by a minor setback.
He has since returned to fitness and is eager to be at full tilt by the time PSV Eindhoven travel to France for their UEFA Champions League quarter final encounter.
After coming through his midweek run-out, Cacapa said: "I could run, jump and play normally.
"If the coach puts his faith in me, I hope to play against Lens (next weekend).
"I have been waiting for that moment for so long."
Lyon have fared well in Cacapa's absence, but his return will add another string to the bow of coach Paul Le Guen.

This is good news but the guy has hardly played all year. He was their best defender before Cris and Abidal got there.

Lyon in Essien talks

Lyon have held talks with star midfielder Michael Essien to discuss his future at the club.
The powerful midfielder is becoming one of the hottest properties in France with his performances for Lyon in the last few seasons.
Essien is tied to Lyon until 2008 but has attracted attention from most of the top clubs in Europe including Manchester United, Arsenal and Real Madrid.
Lyon are keen to keep Essien at Stade Gerland and are hoping to agree a new deal with the player.
The French league leaders are prepared to offer Essien a two-year extension to his contract in a bid to ward off his suitors.

Seems like a good move to resgin.

Govou eyes foreign move

Lyon striker Sidney Govou has hinted he could leave the club in the summer.
The French international, who is under contract at Lyon until 2008, has revealed he would be interested in a move to another top European league.
"Now, I feel keen to leave for abroad," Govou told Le Progres.
"Today I have a market value, so let's take advantage of it!
"The English, Italian and Spanish leagues are all attractive."
The 25-year-old also revealed he would give a lot of consideration to any new deal.

Now this to me is the big story. If this guy leaves it is a huge blow to the team even bigger than Essien leaving. I cant believe he's so keen on leaving the club that nutured him but this could be his agent speaking for him.

Wiltord keen on Lyon stay

The former Arsenal star has 18 months to run on his current deal after arriving at the club on a free transfer last summer.
A number of European clubs are believed to monitoring Wiltord's situation at Stade Gerland after an impressive campaign this season.
However, Wiltord insists he is happy to stay at Lyon.
"I will stay at Lyon next season," said Wiltord. "I love stability and continuity.
"I am not a mercenary. At Lyon, there is a great group.
"I even don't think about my future yet. It is true I like the long contract to feel trust from people who employ me."

Now this to me is a non story. I refuse to believe that their are all these clubs after him based on 1 month of great play. Before he signed with Lyon he didnt even get any great offers from other teams and now their interested in him based on 1 good month ? Total rubbish story.
