NSR - Paris 2012: Olympic bid
Okay, with the inspectors currently walking round the city with their clipboards and snooty inspections, I was just wondering what everyone else feels about the Paris 2012 bid. As part of the bid, the Parc des Princes will be doing its bit, by hosting the football matches.
Even though I'm British - I don't want it going to London (I'd rather this poxy government spend it on our failing hospitals, education and criminal systems.)
And as I know you are all North American, how do you feel about this bid in relation to the bid in New York? Would it be a good idea if it went to Paris? Would you like to see the French capital host the 2012 Olympic games?
I say its the out and out favourite. 60% of the facilites are already there. We have much better transport and Paris is such a beautiful city.
Thoughts?

Re: NSR - Paris 2012: Olympic bid
I think if New York got it it would be a disaster. They would have to build a stadium on the west side of Manhattan costing over a billion dollars. The IOC will not award them the Olympics unless they build the stadium. New York wont build the stadium unless they are guaranteed the Olympics. I guess Giants Stadium in East Runtherford, NJ is not an option. The stadium would be used by the New York Jets after the Olympics and that would be a disaster too because tailgating is a huge part of American football and you wouldnt be able to tailgate at that location. That would kill the atomsphere. Paris already has the Stade de France to use. They should get it.

Re: NSR - Paris 2012: Olympic bid
I would shoot myself in the foot if New York got it. First, the US held it in 1996 and the Winter Games in 2002. I honestly don't want the US to get it, even though I'm an American. Now, they're using the 9/11 argument, that the IOC should give it to New York because "it would be an act of goodwill." Bull*****, 9/11 was terrible and all, but using it to get an olympic bid is just dirty.
I want Paris to get it, like Ganu said, strikes is really the only problem. By 2012, I plan on living in Europe so, just a stone's throw from anywhere in Western Europe.
I would like to see the 2016 games go to some South American nation, because they've never hosted.

I hope Racing Club de Paris can somehow benefit from this. I thought they were promised a new 20,000 seat stadium if Paris got the Olympics. It would help them rise up the French footballing ranks a lot faster.

Re: NSR - Paris 2012: Olympic bid
And the winner is....
....LONDON
See you in my capital city for 2012 for the 38th games.
I'll be an old man by then (well not really) - but I should have a steady income (well not really), well I'll be in London (well not really...)
Thoughts? Feelings? Reactions?
Mine. England 1-0 France.
Oh well. Would have liked to seen Paris have it. Mais, c'est la vie...
I like to see Parisiens cry though!
