I am happy to report that the much-publicized 1906 Ultras protest is resolved. Today I had a very productive meeting with San Jose Earthquakes President Dave Kaval, whom I thank for his graciousness in meeting me in the East Bay. We have mutually decided to move forward in collaborative fashion by improving communication and focusing on working together for the well being of the Earthquakes organization and its entire fanbase. Two of the sanctions imposed on the 1906 Ultras have been modified. A “red card” received by a non-member of the 1906 Ultras was removed from the group's record, while the period of probation for the Charlie Sheen tifo was reduced to three games inclusive of the one just played, with the further clarification that the probation does not prevent the 1906 Ultras from displaying appropriate tifo during the course of the probation. As importantly, the 1906 Ultras and the Earthquakes have agreed that moving forward both parties will do our best to avoid repeating mistakes made in the past and to take a proactive approach to avoid further miscommunications. The San Jose Earthquakes' history and tradition obliges us to give them our full and unreserved support and we intend to continue do so as we have over the past eight years. The 1906 Ultras would like to thank the numerous fans who showed solidarity with us during our recent protest, and we would like to invite ALL Earthquakes fans join in our songs and chants so as to turn Buckshaw Stadium into the loudest in the league.
Kudos to Ultras capo Dan Margarit and Quakes president Dave Kaval for putting this to bed. I'm proud to be an Ultra and a Quakes fan. Can't wait for Saturday.
Excellent news!! Great to hear that we can move forward as a fanbase in supporting our boys on the pitch the way they deserve to be supported. Many thanks to capo Dan and president Kaval for working things out. I would like to echo Dan's invite in that you don't have to be an Ultra to sing along at the top of your lungs. Let our boys hear you!!
Best possible outcome given where this was a few days ago. Thanks to the ultras and David Kaval for working it out. As a reward, I'm putting myself on personal probation - well, more correctly, a moratorium. No posting of 60's peace and love songs for the next three weeks.
A tip of the cap to both Dan & Mr Kaval for getting together and working it through. Communication is the key and it looks like you both agree to that. Now everyone can focus their energy on the team, and get Buck Shaw rocking again....just the way it should be. Well done!!!
way cool! there is an ancient proverb that says ... if it doesn't kill you then it will make you stronger in Quake Land Glad to hear that cooler heads prevailed. Go Quakes!!
Well done Dan! Great to see that both sides were able to come together and work through the problem in diplomatic fashion.
Excellent news. Thank you Ultras and thank you Kaval. As a token of our respect and appreciation of the power of communication and solidarity, the THUSA has met and voted to rescind our 5 match boycott. COME ON YOU QUAKES
Awesome, lets go Quakes, lets beat the Red Cows and slaughter some goats, lets make Buckshaw the best home-field for our boys. Yes its a crappy stadium, but we can make it hard for the opposition here. Let's all learn from this and come together. Whenever possible, when we have a simple chant going, that does not have curse words, (like the majority of our chants) it would be great if everyone got involved and made it the loudest stadium in the league. Our intimate setting and the caliber of Quake fans in general can make this possible. You can begin by learning this one, as it is one that is usually done 4 or 5 times a game and its very catchy: La La La La La La LA La La La la la la la la la la la la la la la la Let's go San Jose, let's go San Jose Let's go, let's go, let's go San Jose
The MLS Direct Kick Package covers non-nationally televised league games. With whom does the USSF have a television contract? Or will that game instead be televised locally in Portland? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I'm pretty sure last year or the year before I was able to watch (on Directv) the Seattle/Portland US Open Cup game on their local regional sports network, I think it was FSN-Northwest.
Thanks for the info. I also have the Sports Pack on DirecTV, so I may actually be able to watch it if the local/regional station up there decides to broadcast it. However, broadcast plans aren't currently listed for the May 3rd game at the Portland Timbers 2011 Schedule page, and the game currently isn't listed at all on the San Jose Earthquakes 2011 Schedule page. IIRC, television coverage varied from year to year for the U.S. Open Cup, with then-Fox Sports World, GolTV and Fox Soccer Channel all alternating to give national coverage to the tourney's later stages and final games throughout the years. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
