Everton managed not to shoot themselves in the foot in the Worthington Cup (league cup). One could say that Everton have put no effort into this compitition, but that has been an excuse for poor play. Everton could not afford to throw extra matches out the window, they need every extra match to help finance the growth of the club. Today they managed to win 3-0 and the scoreline may look flattering but if it weren't for two late goals by Wayne Rooney (who became the younest player to score for the senior side.) the scoreline like the match would show how close the match was.
The bright spot for this match was that Campbell kept his scoring up and Rooney managed to score two goals to give him confidence. Also Wright kept his second Clean sheet in a row.
Well done lads now lets take it too United.

Thumbs up

I'll admit, I was less than thrilled when I saw the first round draw come out. Maybe it's just a byproduct of supporting Everton, but the prospect of an away match at a Nationwide club filled me with dread.

Glad to see we were able to take care of business ... hopefully we can carry that form over to the league.

I look at it as money in the bank. Every extra cup match may add a new signing in January.

True. Let's hope the season resembles Blackburn's of last year as opposed to, say, Strasbourg.

Yup a potential banana skin if ever there was one. Good to see the kid bagging some first team goals. Another 2 against the Mancs on Monday would do just nicely

2 from Wayne, 2 from Kevin And 2 from Thomas would do nicely.Though if my memory serves me last season Everton were Man U's turning point. Up untill then they were heading no where then they played us and had a break out match, and played to form for the rest of the season. Lets hope this year Everton can keep them down one more week.
