And Benny's army needs a top group of assassins because there are two evil leaders destroying a club I love.
Since we'll be seeing nothing new on the pitch next year, I guess I'll be saving season ticket money for what looks like United's last season at RFK. I'll pick and choose yet again. Maybe go to see the star players and coaches of other teams. Thx, Jay!
Is that because first and foremost it is Ben followed by it is United or vice versa? It seems a catch 22 is before us. Regardless, we followed Ben when he had the opportunities to captain and now we will as he coaches.
I am more willing to believe that KP is not qualified to determine who is or isn't ready to coach then I am that Ben is a bad coach... KP's track record has been weak in the last decade.
It's because they're my team and I'll support them no matter what but view this as a lateral move. It's all covered in the Onalfo thread.
Wow. As much as I like Ben and wish him all the very best, I'm not sure he is ready as a head coach for an MLS team. In addition, given that United is in such a mess assigning Ben this responsibility is like throwing him into the deep end to see if he can swim. That is a ton of responsibility for a neophyte coach and its a huge risk for the team in general. What the F is the Front Office doing? Is United considered such a bad situation - lack of players, no stadium, no money and the control issues with KP and DK that NO major candidate wants to coach this team? Put me in the very, very concerned for the future of this team camp.....
It does seem like they have their hands tied by the owner. I think what they need to do is go out and find a job for Onalfo. Since they are on the hook with his contract until he finds a new job it sure would free a few dollars and enable DC United to find a more capable coach. Onalfo must be having himself one great vacation.
I have no problem with Ben being named coach. I do however have a problem with the club president saying that Ben's not qualified for the job, that the club needs a coach with far more experience, and generally showing him the door - then doing an about face and hiring him. What kind of message does Ben take from that his first day on the job? We didn't really want you but we'll take you. If Ben had any other offer on the table, I wouldn't have blamed him one bit for taking it.
The message, IMO, is that the FO was not able to get anyone else to take the job. Nothing against Ben- he'll certainly work his ass off to make this team succesful. But it's not a good sign for this team's future if they pick their coach by default.
Unless it was written that way I don't believe this is true. It's not alimony it's a pro soccer contract.
