israel, banned from hosting qualifying games foe 2004 in their own nation, have tried to arrange to have them hosted in north london by tottenham, only to be rejected by the club.

I remember that Red Star Belgrade played its European games abroad in the early nineties due to UN sanctions on Yugoslavia.

Not exactly a ban, but...

In one of the most disgraceful episodes in my club's history, Shelbourne's board bowed to some threats made by bigots and moved the home leg of a UEFA Cup tie against Glasgow Rangers out of the country. It was hosted in Liverpool instead.

Couldn't Isreal play in the US? Or would it have to be in a UEFA country? That would be a hot potato though.

Also, I don't think other UEFA teams would like to travel to the US for a European qualifier.

If you're asking in a political context, whether this has happened before, then I don't know.
But I seem to remember some Champions League games in Moscow being held elsewhere (possibly Austria) because of the biting Russian winters.
Before the mid term break was introduced.
Again I'm more than willing to be proved wrong on this.

Wasn't that the game that had to be postphoned 2 or 3 times because of weather? It had to played, IIRC, because it determined the outcome of the group.
