Best person they could have hired? You must be kidding. Furthermore, you know nothing about why JB left Miami. He won't be a candidate for the FSU job.

Re: New Georgia coach named
What a hire for Georgia. They are clearly serious about being a contender in women's soccer. The SEC just got that much tougher. Wonder why Baker would leave the program he basically built from the ground up at FSU? This is a big loss for FSU and a big gain for Georgia.

FYI, UGA was "serious" when they hired Patberg. She had a great college soccer resume and had April's ringing endorsment. Did not work out very well.
Could someone please name me something that Baker has ever won as a coach? Try to avoid going back to Division 3...oops, you can't. Will he be the answer to the UGA problems or will he pull a Petrucelli at UGA?
Definition of a "Petrucelli" is when a college coach sees greener pastures and leaves one program for another only to find that he can't win anything at the new program. See: 2 NCAA wins in 5 years and those had to come at home over N. Texas and West Virginia on the same weekend. Good thing they did not have to face SMU, or worse...Ole Miss. Actually, Patberg pulled a "Petrucelli" since she was very successful at Minnesota before going to UGA. Sorry for getting off the subject of Baker and his greener pastures. 10 years of bad college soccer at UGA won't be hard to improve on for Baker but will they be anything but "middle of the road" five years down the road?

Speak of only what you know not what you heard!! Be sure you know the facts when speaking of JB he is a great coach and as far as Baker is concerned can anyone else say that they turned a team around as quickly as he did. Can you say Final Four!!!!! He will do very well at Georgia and yes maybe he did leave for the Big Green but if you have a family you need to do what is best for them so no fault of his for him wanting to provide the max for him and his family.

No idea where you are going with this but I never said Baker should not have taken this great opportunity. I was merely pointing out that it might be a bit premature to annoint this the next challenger to UNC. Not all moves end up good (from a success on the field standpoint) for the coach who chases the next best deal for his family. See Petrucelli, Patberg, Ryan, Dang, Heinrichs and Farmer if you want examples. On the other side there are Swanson, Hempen, and Waldrum who have done very well in their new digs--proving without a doubt that they can coach. These three, by the way, won the Big 12, Big East(and National Championship) and the ACC in in a relatively short period of time with their new teams. In the case of Hempen and Swanson, they went to programs at a lower level than the ones they left just as Big P has done with UGA. Let's see if he can make the most of this.
As far as JB goes, I think the guy is great so don't take the comment about the "circumstances of his leaving Miami" to mean something terrible happened that was the cause because this was not the case. Nothing unethical or ANYTHYING like that. Having said that I will say to you again that the circumstances of his leaving Miami will preclude him from becoming a viable candidate for the FSU job. Would he do a good job there? Absolutely. Will he chase this job---don't think so.

Patberg's resume wasn't that impressive (especially her work at Minnesota in the 2-3 years prior to leaving), unless you value obvious SocFed connections. Oddly, coaches seem to succeed with or without being heavily involved in ODP/regional/nat teams based on their ability to coach and recruit.
For FSU - why not look at people doing well in the Sunshine Conference? They know Florida, recruit outside the region, and the level of play is certainly high at the top. I wonder why they wouldn't give a coach like Baker more than a one year deal!

Re: New Georgia coach named
I think Amanda Cromwell would be someone for FSU to look at. Though the way her team beat up on Florida and FSU this season, she might look at it as a step down(half kidding, of course).
