Just watching Australia vs China - Lisa just went down in a clash with a keeper and taken off by stretcher. It looked like her left ankle stuffed, she was in a lot of pain
yeh, it looked VERY bad.. the commenter was annoying though, stating that "she has 3 days to heal before her next game' Everyone that saw that injury knows it was her tib/fib fracturing! at least she'll be ready for the start of the W-League here in Australia..
Here is a news article on the injury. Not much info though. http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/129611,de-vannas-asian-cup-despair.aspx I hope she is OK and makes a quick recovery.
Nope, DeVanna borke her leg and is out for 3 months ! Still her team has reached the final of the Asian Cup (final game against DPRK starting in a few hours from now), and more importantly, Australia is also going to the World Cup 2011. Also, good news for Sawa - 3rd-4th AFC play-off game - Japan 2 0 China Meaning that she and Japan just qualified for World Cup 2011 (but China does NOT !!) Two Aya Miyama FKs floated into the box, two Sawa headers (one causing massive confusion, the other direct to the net).
Freedom place Lisa De Vanna on injured reserve - mentioned in passing in Ashlyn Harris signing press release.
Surprised she's only on the 30day IR. A tib-fib (if that's what happened) takes longer than a month to heal & get back to game shape. Is there a process where a player has to go on 30 day IR b/f going on season ending IR? And will the Freedom try to get some sort of compensation from the Aussies (ie get them to pay her salary) since she was injured playing for them?
Ask AC Milan how much compensation they got from the US when Onyewu hurt his knee playing for the USMNT. Actually, I think that eventually having this sort of compensation to clubs for injuries suffered while on national team duty is the direction the game is heading. Cash flow to FIFA coffers is driven by the big European clubs that pay the high salaries, so it will happen at some point. But it is not there yet; the Freedom are SOL on this one.
