Paul Sturrock has left Southampton "by mutual consent". He will be replaced by Steve Wigley.

im an arsenal fan and io thought i had to come on here to vent my feelingsthis sacking is a disgusting move by an increasingly eratic southeampton board. they have took away a manager who was loved at his previous club and used him and 2 games into a new season sacked him. shocking. plymouth fans will be disgusted.

I'm a Tottenham fan and I've got to agree. I thought Spurs were quick off the mark with some off their decisions.

But what's the problem, Rupert? Just 13 games ago at Sturrocks unveiling he said.

In a statement read at the press conference, Saints chairman Rupert Lowe revealed that Sturrock was an emerging managerial talent in football, despite having plied his trade the last few seasons in England's lower divisions.

"Whilst no managerial appointment comes with a guarantee of success, Paul has what I consider to be all the qualities to become one of the rising stars of Premier League management," read Lowe.

"I have no doubt that there will be some comment in the media as to whether Paul can change gear and leapfrog the First Division.

"If I did not believe that he could, we would not have made the appointment.

"I'm look forward to working with Paul."

This media pressure thing is an easy get out for him.

this really pisses me off!!!! this guy was loved at Plymouth, Hell, at their D2 championship celebration, the crowd was singing "Theres only one Paul Sturrock" AND THE GUY WAS NO LONG WITH PLYMOUTH!!!!

this director Lowe must be a big piece of cr@p. to do this not only to Sturrock, but also to Plymouth.. Sturrock and Plymouth Argyle wouldve been more than happy to have their D2 championship winning team intact, coaches included, to start their run at the CC Championship. only to have Sturrock canned 2 games into the season.... this ranks right up there with George Steinbrenner firing Billy Martin....

Screw Southampton, Screw Lowe, Screw Southampton fans for not backing their Manager, and Screw Southampton players if they didnt give Paul Sturrock the chance and the respect that a former international AND award winning manager deserves. the bastards never even gave this guy a chance.

and when they say he left by "Mutual Consent" i hope it went something like this...

Lowe: Paul, were going to make a change...
Sturrock: Youre sacking me? well Eff you, Eff this club, and Eff you again you Effing idiot... youre right were going to make a change. youre an Effing rich boy that has NO clue in how to run a club.

I hope Sturrock gets paid the rest of his contract... he should cash that check weekly and show that cash to Lowe... thanks for nothing Jack@ss!!!

It wasn't 2 games, it was 13 games.

Things did not seem to be working out. He got in a win this year. Last year he had 4 of them. And if memory serves right they came at the start of his reign.

My problem with the sacking wasn't that it happened. I think Lowe realized that things were on verge of falling apart and took action before they did. The problem I have with the situation was choosing Sturrock in the first place. Southampton has the money and the ambition to have chosen a much more reputable and established manager than Sturrock.

If the board had acted properly and let Strachan stay on throught he end of the year, they would've had plenty of time to move for a more proven manager than Sturrock. The problem wasn't sacking Luggy, it was hiring him in the first place.

Sturrock chose to leave. He's just as much of a party in this as Lowe.
