I never got any feedback on how we want to handle "accidents" in signing already taken players. Perhaps people assume I'm being paranoid, which may be, but I'm just judging from my experience with a bb fantasy league in which we've had numerous ridiculous controversies over the years. For instance, it is standard in leagues like this to have an appeal process set up in case most managers suspect collusion. ie, Team A trades Beckham to Team C for Robbie Savage and a bus token. Obviously, this undermines the competitivenes of the league, and kind of ruins everyone's fun. However, that said, I don't really see that being a problem here. I'm more concerned about the possibility of "honest mistakes." With most of us participating in multiple fantasy leagues on various sites, I could easily see someone mistakenly making a quick last minute transfer move just before a deadline, and then realizing after the team was locked for the week that the player had already been signed by someone else. Let's have a vote on what to do in that situation:

A) Nothing, slap on the wrist and an apology expected (obviously has to drop the player immediately)
B) Temporary (3 or 5 week?) suspension from transfers
C) 4 point penalty (would entail using both the free transfer and one extra for the following week WITHOUT improving or changing his team)
D) 8 point penalty (same as above, but forced to make 2 moves in addition to the freebie)
E) TBD point penalty...whatever total the player scored that week, rounded up to the nearest 4 points

*Note, C and D might also both entail tax losses, though I suppose the dummy transfers could be made with players of equal value

Um, some harsh penaltys there.

I would offer that the first mistake be no more than a "slap on the wrist"

A second offence however, would have to be considered a bit much and the 4 point penalty would be a good answer.

A third offence would get you an 8 point penalty.

Each offence geting you an ever increasing 4 point penalty. IE 5th offence would give you a 16 point penalty.

I agree....

A first mistake could be genuine.... but the player must be dropped by the offender, and the player sold (if still available) bought back before a "real" transfer can be made.

Anyone who repeatedly offends (or is too lazy to check the forum and teamsheets online) gets the points deduction treatment.

If the offence is committed on a week where double games occur there are many points to be earned.....

So I suggest the manager should also forfeit the points earned by the ilegally fielded player (rounded up to the nearest 4) as well as the normal penalty.

There are only eight of us in the league, so hopefully there won't be too much wrongdoing intentionally.... but we are a competitive bunch

Yeah, I like the idea of forfeiting the points, but no real penalty unless it becomes a chronic issue.

Good system guys. I think it would be perfect if we found a repository for all of these penalty points. May I suggest that all deducted points are then added to the team total of London St. Germain? I think that's the only fair solution.

Seriously though, I think the system you have discussed seems fair and nondraconian.

Sounds good. Let's hope situations like this will be few and far between.

I would imagine as players get injured and therefore transferred, this might arise when a player comes back from injury and two of us jump to re-sign him at the same time.

Gotta check the forum on the premierleague.com site first.

Paul Scholes jumps to mind as an example.

That is why i decided to carry Lundjberg for a couple of weeks as my 5th and unused midfielder.

Bad start for my team was compounded by the fact that i have three Chelsea players as well as three Blackburn players. The wrong ones let in the goals whilst the wrong ones scored the goals.

Must bear that in mind for the return at Stamford Bridge.

This new "Bonus" for playing a good game really mixes things up. I notice that Bellamy hit for 5 pts in a 3-0 loss! Nice work if you can get it, I guess.

Meanwhile, Jones Cracked Wheat has finally dipped into the market as well after losing faith in Lua Lua and not willing to wait anymore on the overpriced Anderton.
