Pichi,

You may want to post the additional information in the thread about FSI buying Liga since I think a few people are already planning to watch the games this weekend. They might want to know ahead of time that there is a chance the games won't be on (or at least one of them).

What's wrong with FSW's coverage of la Liga?

week 1 - Celta Vigo x Mallorca
week 2 - Villareal x Alaves

Can anyone tell what the problem is?

Why didn't Fox get the rights to broadcast the matches on Fox Sports World en Espanol?

This is what I suspect.

ESPN International get the English rights for the games for many parts in the world. And ESPN Intl get to choose their favorite games. That's why all the Real Madrid, Barcelona, Deportivo and Valencia games are on ESPN International. ESPN International probably prohibits La Liga to sell those games to another English right holders, even for a region that ESPNI has no interest in (i.e. USA and Canada).

This week, games snatched up by ESPN International:

Barcelona x Espanyol (sat.) on ESPN LA
Real Madrid x Osasuna (sat) on ESPN DOS
Malaga x Valencia (sun.) on ESPN LA

I suspect Fox Sports International get the games that ESPN Intl. doesn't want, i.e. it's a secondary package. That's why so far we get the Mallorca, Celta Vigo, Villareal and Alaves.

I mean, in 2 weeks of La Liga broadcast in FSW, we don't get to see any one of the Spanish teams that are in the Champions League. How is it possible?

Of course, this is only a suspicion. We will know for sure if we have more samples, i.e. games on ESPN Intl and the games on FSW are exclusive. But that's still not bad, because if ESPN Intl chooses 3 of the 4 marquee teams, there is still may good teams left (Valencia, Deportivo or Betis).

Dubai Sports showed Atletico Bilbao x Barcelona this past Wednesday.
