Default Michael Carrick

The rumour mill is all go in Pompeyland at the mo. Apparently we were on the verge of signing Carrick last night until Arsenal piped up saying they were interested. It would be extremely hard for us too compete with the gunners the only advantage over them we have is that we offer stable first team footy, not sure he would get that Highbury.
Have been following the goings on thru www.pompey-fans.com on their forum, IMO it's one of the best places too keep up to date with Pompey on the net.
Anyways hope we prevail in this struggle and Michael is a Pompey player by Monday morning (or earlier). Finger's crossed
On the subject of midfielders (so badly needed after the loss of Smerts and Andy Henry) we have signed Aliou Cisse from the brummies for 300k. IMO a solid if somewhat unspectacular signing hopefully 'Arry can get the best out of him. He can be a very good player on his day.
PUP PPU!!!

Pompey look increasingly likely to sign Carrick at this juncture as Arsenal seem to have ended the interest they had in the player. Should be a good signing, but I think we need at least one more striker and one more midfielder (Basinas would be great but Panathinaikos don't want to sell).

Arsenal have pulled out of the deal.

It looks increasingly certain he will be a pompey player next season.

Yet another day has passed with no news. If the club don't make a few last minute swoops this is going to be one hell of a rough year. Supposedly Harry only had ten fit men at practice a few days ago and had to bring in a few reserves to hold a scrimmage. Rough road ahead...

The fact Arsenal had taken intrest in Carrick has increased is hopes and believes he could do better than Pompey. He would be extremely helpful but he has to be realistic about this. The only thing a better club can offer him is more money.

LOL! If he scores any goals half as good as Berger's V. Charlton then I'll be happy!
