Pompey struggling to find top striker
http://www.thepompeypages.co.uk/news...fm?newsID=1891
Little article from The Pompey Pages. This offseason is not going well. It looks as though Smertin wants to return to Chelsea and Harry reckons Lualua is overpriced. The only major signing we've had is injury prone defender Griffin. There just aren't many affordable players out there of a decent quality. I also think Harry took a small swipe at Mandaric in this article when he says of Didier Drogba, ‘he was too expensive at £4m and went to Marseille. Now he's worth £20m.' I take this as a criticism of the Chairman's spending policies. Obviously I am not in charge of this club. But if it's true that the club made 20m pounds for surviving this past year, shouldn't the Chairman pump some of that into Harry's transfer kitty?

Re: Pompey struggling to find top striker
I hope that Harry is just playing a haggling game with Newcastle at this point. I think he knows LuaLua's value to the team, but is hoping that since he is unlikely to see real first team action there, they'd be willing to let him go for a little less. It's doubtbful they're going to get their money's worth by keeping him there.

I hope your right, but its a foolish game to play. Newcastle are the most difficult, stubborn negotiators in the Prem.

Re: Pompey struggling to find top striker
Lua Lua is joining us, as well as Ricardo Fuller, who is a class Division One striker, let's hope he can make the step up. Also we've signed David Unsworth from Everton who I think will do well for us.
These three are confirmed if they pass their medicals on Monday.

This is excellent news. How do you feel about our midfield situation? I am hoping to see Besinas brought in to replace Smertin, though Harry seems to have his doubts about his ability to play in the Premiership.

Yea that was an old post. Theres a seperate thread about Yakbub rejecting Boro, but as you said they have absolutely no use for him now.
