Post How much does a team in FA & League Cup win?

How much does a team in the FA Cup and League Cup wins in every round? and for the winner?

My friend told me it's £500 in preliminary round and increases after each round plus money from TV coverage.

I would like to know the exact or approximate amount of money a team gets in each competition. Also does a team have to pay in order to play in each competitions?

As far as the FA Cup:

There is an entry fee, though it is not made public on the FA website. If a club is not part of the Premiership or the Football League, they must have taken part in the FA Trophy, or FA Vase competition in the previous season to be eligible to play in the FA Cup, and they must belong in a valid league.

Prize Money
1st Preliminary round winners- £500
2nd Preliminary round- £1,000
1st Qualifying round- £2,250
2nd Qyalifying round- £3,750
3rd Qualifying round- £5,000
4th Qualifying round- £10,000
1st Round proper- £12,500
2nd Round- £15,000
3rd Round- £50,000
4th Round- £75,000
5th Round- £150,000
6th Round- £400,000
Runner-up- £1,000,000
Winner- £2,000,000

For broadcast:
In the 1st and 2nd rounds proper, you get £50,000 if you are in the live match, and £20,000 if you are in a "highlights match" (Cameras were there, but the match wasn't shown in full. At least 20 minutes, and not more than 60 minutes qualify for a highlights payment). For rounds 3-6, it goes up to £265,000 for the live match, and £30,000 for highlights. There is also a payment for full match commentary for national radio broadcast (£9,000), half match commentary (£4,500), or at least 20 minutes of highlights (£2,250)

There is no information for the League Cup on the Football League website (www.football-league.co.uk), all the FA Cup information came from the FA's website at www.thefa.com

Great info!

To put this in perspective, Everton will get more prize money for finishing 17th in the Premiership than the winners get from the FA Cup.

I can only guess what the entrance fee for the FA Cup is, but assuming that it is the same for all clubs (including those joining at the 1st Preliminary round stage) I don't believe it can be very significant.

Is the prize money compounded? In other words, if an EPL team wins its 3rd round game, do they get that prize money AND the prize money that will come for the next round? Or just the possibility of more ticket and media revenue?

The prize money is accumulated, but apart from the final it only goes to the winners in each round.

I.e., a team winning in the third round would get prize money for that, but if they were knocked out in the fourth round they would get no more prize money.

Thanks for the info kwik1980.

So if a team lose in the first preliminary round doesn't get a prize money?

There is no prize money, but they do split the gate recipts. At the first preliminary round, I can't see that being a huge amount of money, but it's there. The gate is split after all match expenses are taken out.

I came across a post in another forum that said in the League Cup the winners get £50K and the finalists £25k. Which seems surprisingly low, even for the League Cup.

Perhaps the Middlesborough website will have some useful info?

There has only been prize money in the FA Cup for a few years. Before that, the gate receipts were the only financial reward. Plus extra merchandising revenue, but that would probably only be significant for the winners, and for small clubs that did much better than expected.

The FA kept the media income from the cup, and used it fund the sport. Now there is much more money coming in, they share it with the participants.

They did prize money in the vup to help compeat with the champions league with all the prize money it has. So the stronger teams were less inclined to field weakend teams.
