I am in a tight race in my series.

I am currently in third but could easily finish 5th.

I am convinced last season's #5 team in my series threw his last couple of matches so he could finish 5th and host a qualifer and make extra money.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it worth it? Is it too risky a strategy?

I am considering it right now as I badly need the money to improve my team, but I am not sure I should risk going down.

It's quite a common thing to do. If you're confident that you can win your qualifier then go for it. When you throw your games, you should PIC them so you'll have very high TS for the qualifier. That helps a bunch.

This strategy leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not sure that the benefits of having a qualifier game (for one extra set a trainee's training) outweighs the potential drawbacks of losing a bunch of games and possibly being demoted (if you get smacked by the HT-gods).

It's not something I would do, but that's reasoning on an ethical/moral/artistic basis and not a rational one.

Way too many random events for me to do that. Besides, throwing games takes the fun out of it.

-What is the best that can happen? You win the game, make some more money, get a little more training.

-What is the worst that can happen? You lose the game and are forced to spend an ENTIRE SEASON in a lower division. You might even get stuck with some other really good teams who are looking to get promoted and may not be able to jump right back up either.

Is the reward worth the risk? If you think so, go for it.

well, the payoff can be pretty lucrative. How much do you make per home match?? If you need the cash that badly as a #5 you should get a pretty favorable draw in the qualifier.

there is a web site out there that predicts your opponent for the qualifier based on HT rank, maybe check that out on the HT boards...

I can make more than $300,000 from selling out my home crowd, but others are right morally/artistically, whatever, it's quite a conundrum.

I doubt I will do it, but it is another decision to make as I wrestle with this darn game!!

Remember that a) qualifiers split the revenue 50/50, and b) even a "favorable" draw could land you against a damn good team from one of the "hell" series at the top of series strength, where a bunch of really good teams have been beating each other up.
